Commodity cook-off stated April 6
Creative ways to prepare dishes from USDA commodities will be the focus of a Commodity Cook-off to be conducted at Brewer High School April 9, according to Morgan County Schools Child Nutrition Director Mary Beth Henry.
“The cook-off is open to anyone employed in child nutrition in Morgan County, City of Hartselle and City of Decatur school systems,” Henry said. “We have commitments from all three school systems but we’re looking for more.”
She said recipes should be created from commodities child nutrition programs are currently receiving from USDA. They include cheeses, chicken, beef, fresh and frozen vegetables and pasta.
Dishes will be judged in different categories and recipes will be shared. Winners will receive prizes. Brewer’s culinary arts class will do the judging.
