Sheriff’s Rodeo set for April 10-11

The annual Morgan County Sheriff’s Rodeo will take center stage April 10-11 with two nights of giddy-up fun and excitement at Celebration Arena near Priceville.

Bo Campbell Productions will direct the rodeo show, as professional cowboys and cowgirls from several states compete in the event that is sanctioned by the Professional Cowboy Association.

Winners will reap cash awards and earn points leading to their qualification for the 2015 National Rodeo competition.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. both days and competitive rodeo events will get underway at 7 p.m.

A grand entry of riders on horses will be made each day with Sheriff Ana Franklin taking the lead. She will be followed by members of the Morgan County Mounted Posse and other riders.

Competitive events will include bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, calf roping, team roping and saddle and bareback bronco riding. Clowns will perform between events along with prize drawings and several fun-filled activities for kids.

A rodeo parade is scheduled in downtown Hartselle Saturday. Horses and riders and other parade units will depart from the Mounted Posse Grounds at noon and return after parading on Main Street.

Parade participants and viewers are invited to a free hot dog and hamburger cookout at the posse grounds afterwards.

A special needs rodeo will be at the Celebration Arena Thur., April 9, beginning at 8 a.m.

An estimated 1,400 special needs children, their teachers, aides and volunteers from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and community organizations are expected to attend.

Participants will receive free balloons and refreshments, have their faces painted, dance, ride horseback and play games. In addition, a hot dog lunch will be served at noon.

This event has received award recognition from the Professional Cowboy Association for the past two years.
