Chamber announces award winners

The Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce awarded its top awards during its annual meeting and awards banquet Tuesday night at Hartselle High School.

Geoff Halbrooks received the Dr. Thomas M. Guyton Humanitarian Award.

This award has been given annually since 1980 recognizing a person who is a “gift to the community.” It is someone who seeks to improve others’ lives, who gives and gives, yet never asks or takes anything in return.

Fred Langston was named the E.R. Roberts Business Award. This award has been given every year since 1989 and is in honor of longtime businessman E.R. Roberts, who opened a clothing store in downtown Hartselle in 1921 and stayed in business for more than 69 years until his death in 1990.

Roberts built his reputation on honesty and fair treatment to his customers along with strong civic pride and support. He was successful not because of money he made but because of what he invested in Hartselle.

Bobby Webster received the John J. Sparkman Citizenship Award, which goes to the person who goes beyond the call of duty and has dedicated time and effort for the Hartselle area and Morgan County.

This honors former Sen. John J. Sparkman, who served more than 40 years to the U.S., Alabama and Morgan County.

Jim Corum received the Tommy Ed Roberts Civic Award.

This award recognizes former Morgan County Economic Development Association President and former State Rep. Tommy Ed Roberts.

Angela Hale was also named Ambassador of the Year for her hard work being an ambassador for the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce.

Kay DeKalb Smith entertained the attendees in the Hartselle High School Auditorium following the dinner and awards program.
