Krystal murder case sees final conviction

The Decatur woman charged with murder for the 2011 shooting deaths of Jeffrey Graff and Jessie Jose Aguilar pleaded guilty in court Wed., April 1.

Cassandra Rayann Eldred, 26, entered guilty pleas to two counts of felony murder. She was the third and final defendant charged in the incident, and her plea marked the third conviction in the case.

Graff and Aguilar were discovered dead Aug. 24, 2011, inside the Krystal on Sixth Avenue in Decatur where the two men were employed.

Eldred was accused of driving Jordaan Creque and Ezekial Gholston to and from the Krystal on the evening of the murder-robbery. Eldred admitted to investigators that she accepted $200 in cash for her involvement in the crime, but denied having knowledge that anyone would be killed during the robbery.

“We are pleased that Ms. Eldred decided to accept responsibility for her actions and enter a plea of guilty,” District Attorney Scott Anderson said. “While nothing will ever be able to bring back Jeff Graff or Jessie Aguilar, it does mean something that the families of these two hard working men will not have to endure another trial, and I hope that they will be able to find some solace in the fact that the loss of their loved ones has been addressed by the criminal justice system and a measure of accountability has been meted out to everyone who is responsible for taking their lives. We believe that the system worked fairly and justly in this instance and are satisfied with the outcome that was reached this morning.”

Judge Glenn Thompson sentenced Eldred to a term of life imprisonment for the offenses. The sentence was part of a plea agreement worked out with the district attorney.
