Hartselle Beautification Association is partnering with the National Keep America Beautiful Association to sponsor the Great American Clean-Up project April 18-25.

A big kickoff rally will set the stage for the weeklong event Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center.

“We’re offering lots of incentives in the hope that we’ll have a big crowd,” said Carolyn Wallace. HBA director. “The larger the number the better are our chances of making this a big success.”

She said those attending will be eligible to win merchandise prizes and gift certificates donated by local merchants and hear State Sen. Arthur Orr speak. The first 100 to register for pickup will receive a special prize. Non-Hartselle residents can also participate.

Cleanup supplies garbage bags, gloves and Band-Aids – will be available for litter pickup volunteers.

Public works will provide truck and drivers to pick up trash placed at curbside the following week.

Drawings for prizes, including $500 in cash, will be April 27 on FM radio 105.7 WQAH in Hartselle.

Public Works Superintendent Daxton Maze said his department would have the annual citywide clean up during the week of April 20-24 in conjunction with the event.

“Please place your white goods near the street, and the city trucks will pick that debris up during the week,” Maze said. “Please have all items placed at street by Mon., April 20, at 6 a.m.”

The Great American Cleanup engages more than 4 million volunteers and participants across the country to take action in local communities to create positive change and lasting impact.

These events and education programs help to renew parks, trails and recreation areas; clean shorelines and waterways; remove litter and debris; reduce waste and increase recycling; and plant trees, flowers and community gardens.
