The Hartselle Beautification Association will host the Take Pride Hartselle 2015 Campaign April 18-25 as part of the Great American Clean-Up event this year. A kickoff event will be April 18 from 9-11 a.m. at Sparkman Park with Sen. Arthur Orr. Participants will be able to register for prizes, including a $500 cash prize. The first 100 to register will receive a special prize. Participants do not have to live within the Hartselle city limits. The prize drawing will be April 27 on 105.7 WQAH Hartselle Radio. The April meeting of the Decatur Music Club will be April 19 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, located at 3310 Danville Road SW in Decatur. Hartselle Parks and Recreation will have a Pinterest party to paint door hangers, April 21 at 6 p.m. The theme will be a chalkboard rooster hanger and a frog. Participants must register by April 17 and pay a fee a $15 per project at Sparkman Civic Center. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult taking the class.

Priceville Elementary School is hosting a Kids Walk for Diabetes Tues., April 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the football field track. They will hopefully raise $1,200 and awareness to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

April 23

The Priceville Public Safety Department will have a gun safety program April 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bill Dinsmore Community Center located on Alabama 67. Topics covered in the class include law/eminent danger by Sheriff Ana Franklin, 911 response by Cpl. Herman Davis and choice of weapons and ammunition review by Councilman Jerry Welch. Class participants will also receive assistance in concealed weapons permit applications, visually inspect weapons for unsafe conditions, collect old ammunition for disposal and issue free gun safety locks. East Highland Baptist Church is hosting its 16th annual East Highland Baptist Youth Missions Trip Golf Tournament April 25 at 8 a.m. at Chesley Oaks Course in Cullman. The annual Somerville Celebration Festival will be Fri., May 1. There will be food, a 5k and one-mile fun run, antique car show and fireworks. Live music will be provided by Wayne Abbott as Willie Nelson, Garrett and Briana Dean and the Fellowship Quartet. Vendors set up by 3 p.m., the music and 5k start at 5 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Parking is free and there is no entry fee. The Morgan County Master Gardeners Association will host a plant sale Sat., May 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sun., May 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, behind the Home Depot in Decatur. This annual sale will feature unusual plants, houseplants, succulents, annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, wildflowers and mixed containers. There will also be hanging baskets and containers ready for gift-giving. Vendors will have specialty plants and items for the home and yard.

Hartselle Junior High School’s IMPACT program will host the Jennifer Burks Memorial Run 5k and one-mile fun run Sat., May 9. Registration is going on now, and entry fees are $20 and $10 for the 5k and one-mile fun run, respectively. The race will begin at HJHS. Late registration and packet pickup will be $5 more Fri., May 8, at the Pettey Center from 4-7 p.m. and Sat., May 9 from 6:45-7:30 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the IMPACT Wellness Initiative.

The Pilot Club of Decatur will host its 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament May 16 at Point Mallard Golf Course. The four-man scramble will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Lunch will be at noon. Driving range practice will start at 7 a.m. The $300 ($75 per person) entry fee is due May 11. Prizes will be given to the top three teams in each flight. Awards will also be given for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Players could win a car with a hole-in-one for a specific par three. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham.
