Falkville still alive in third round of playoffs

Falkville downs Section in away doubleheader

The Blue Devils swept a doubleheader at Section Friday to advance to the third round of the state playoffs.

Falkville held on to a tight seventh inning lead to win 3-2 in the first game after Section tied it up in the fifth inning.

Tyler Woodall had an outstanding offensive performance, going 3-for-4 from the plate and accounting for half of Falkville’s hits. He racked up two doubles and an RBI. Other hitters included Hunter Woodall, Andy Dove and Bryant Hester.

Ryan Bradford pitched all seven innings with six strikeouts and allowing three walk and two runs off seven hits.

The Blue Devils cruised through the second game to an 8-0 victory for their second sweep of the playoffs.

Falkville had hot bats with almost every Blue Devil in the lineup adding a hit.

Tyler Woodall had a triple, a single and an RBI, while Taylor Steele added two hits and two RBIs. Bradford added another triple and two RBIs. Nic Martin and Hunter Woodall had a double each while Woodall added two RBIs. Other hitters were Dove, Dallas Mayer and Bryant Hester.

Blake Bradford pitched all seven innings for Falkville with six strikeouts and two walks, scattering four hits.

The Blue Devils will host Mars Hill Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the third round of the 2A state playoffs. The next round will be the Final Four.

 

FHS sweeps first round against Collinsville

Falkville swept the Collinsville Cougars in the first round of the state playoffs Fri., April 17.

Rain delays didn’t dampen the Blue Devils’ bats with Dallas Mayer and Hunter Woodall going 4-for-4 and 3-for-4, respectively, in the first game of the doubleheader.

Mayer racked up a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Woodall added three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Other hitters included Ryan Bradford with two and Taylor Steele, Andy Dove, Colin Eason, Nic Martin and Bryant Hester with one each.

Bradford went the distance for Falkville pitching all seven innings with 14 strikeouts and only three walks and three earned runs off seven hits.

FHS continued to dominate offensively in the second game.

Bradford, Dove, Mayer and Hester had two hits apiece with Hunter Woodall, Steele and Eason adding one each. Woodall and Bradford each earned a double.

Blake Bradford pitched all five innings finishing with seven strikeouts, three walks and two runs off six hits.
