Lions Club International is chartering a new club in Hartselle.

The club held initial meetings to test the interest in a new club forming in this area earlier in the year.

Hartselle was home to a Lions Club several years ago but the club was no longer chartered and the need for a new club was recently discovered. The Cullman Lions Club is mentoring and helping the new group get their feet on the ground as well as helping the group organize the new club.

Currently, the club is meeting the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at noon at Oh Bryans’s Family Steak House in Hartselle. The newly formed group is finding their way and deciding on the groups they wish to support and help. One of the first projects the club will assist with will be the outdoor classroom at Crestline Elementary School. The club will also sponsor a free mobile vision screening during Depot Days this year.

Officer elections have been held and the members are busy recruiting other prospective members to join their group.

Officers in the new club include president Dr. Susan Persall, vice president Randy Garrison, secretary Dena Nagel, treasurer Nancy Case and membership chair Susan Hines. The group will also be electing a board of directors in the coming weeks.

The club will have an official Chartering of the club June 13 at Hartselle First United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. At this meeting, the members will be inducted into Lions Club and the officers will be installed.
