BHS grad drives from Hartselle to Anchorage
Special to the Enquirer: Janice Dotson
A 2012 graduate of Brewer High School took a road trip from Hartselle to Anchorage, Alaska.
When asked why, SPC Meggan Ullery said everyone told her that she had to do it once. Ullery joined the Army after graduating from Brewer High School in 2012. She left her first duty station at the Airborne School at Fort Benning to go to her second home at Fort Richardson, Alaska.
Ullery’s only concern was the distance with as much as 100-plus miles between gas stations in remote parts of Canada. To eliminate the risk, she mounted a platform on the back of her vehicle to carry additional gas cans.
She arrived at one anticipated stop only to find the hotel boarded up. She called back home to Alabama to her parents Ann and Chad Ullery of Eva who searched the Internet to find the next available place to spend the night. They made her reservations and called her back.
One stop in a remote area was on the “honor system.” Ullery went to her room with an outdoor entrance and was told to pay the next morning.
Ullery is the granddaughter of Bob and Janice Dotson of Morgan County.
