The members of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church will host a memorial program of music, speakers and family members of the deceased in the area and surrounding communities. Brother Glenn McCain is the Mt. Vernon pastor. Following their program on Sun., May 10 at their morning worship time, a potluck meal will be held in the fellowship hall. At 1 p.m., there will be a special singing. The chairman is Darrell Maddox. Everyone is invited to attend.

Special congratulations to Jordan and Janice Alvis on the birth of their son, Gunner Jay Alvis. Gunner was born March 18, 2015. His proud grandparents are Ray and Laura Vest and his great-grandparents are Katie Sparkman Kirby and Delbert Vest.

Arthur Ray and Barbara Summerford of Round Top community attended their granddaughter, Krista McCaig’s graduation Sat., April 25. The University of Alabama Birmingham Spring Ceremony was at 2 p.m. Krista received her bachelor of science degree from the School of Nursing.

The Danville Iron Man Bunko Club met Tues., April 14, at 10 a.m. Beverly Mims hosted the games and lunch at her home in Hartselle. The next meeting will be Tues., May 12, at 10 a.m.

Jeremy and Leslie McAbee were honored with a baby shower at Shady Grove Baptist Church Sun., April 12, at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

The Falkville Public Library is continuing their book sale of paperbacks or hard backs for $5 per bag. Everyone who wishes to participate in this special book sale must bring this clipping from the Danville news in order to participate in this special offer.

On Sun., April 19, Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church hosted a joint program at the evening worship service for McKendree United Methodist Church and Neel United Methodist Church. Patty Andrews, the lay leader, welcomed everyone and led the opening prayer. After the singing, Jim Webster, church member and agent at Hartselle Police Dept. and Gary Landers, Morgan County Sheriff’s Dept. gave a program on the dangers of drugs.

The Corinth West Methodist annual decoration will be May 17 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a memorial singing and readings by people from the congregation and community.

Brother Wayne Jetton will welcome everyone and present the devotional.

At noon, a bountiful lunch will be served in the fellowship hall and a gospel convention singing at 1 p.m. Bud Woods is the chairman.

There will be a Swamp John’s supper at the church fellowship hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Tues., June 16.

There is a committee working on a joint Bible school with Mt. Vernon Methodist at Corinth, May 31-June 5, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly with the closing ceremony Fri., June 5.

Round Top Community Church will have their annual decoration Sun., May 3. The Sunday school will be at 10 a.m. and the special memorial service will be at 11 a.m. There will be congregational singing and special music will be announced. Lunch will be served at noon in the family life center.

Mary and Norris Turney of Forrest Chapel, Frances Rowe of Massey and Sallye Swafford of Hartselle attended a Southern Living magazine promotion of Tasia Malakasig, most recent cookbook in Elkmont earlier this month.

Tasia has a southern mother and Greek father and her recipes in Southern Made Fresh reflect her heritage. She is famous for her gourmet goat cheese and her business, the Belle Chevre Creamery in Elkmont. The new executive editor of Southern Living Magazine attended the event.

Tasia graciously signed cookbooks for those attending. Her cheese products shipped worldwide and a restaurant serving her products is also on the property and is managed by others. Tasia’s philosophy is food should be approachable and accessible.

Danville High School’s junior and senior prom was Sat., April 18 from 9 p.m. to midnight at Quail Creek Resort near Falkville. Before the prom, many students and their dates ate in Decatur and made photos on Bank Street. After the prom, Kelly Hutchings hosted a breakfast at her home in Oak Ridge for her daughter, Alex Sims and her friends. The prom theme was very well done. Everyone enjoyed the Great Gatsby and the roaring 20’s decor, costumes and music.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Floyd Wilhoite of Sharp’s Ford community. He was a good community and family person who enjoyed farming, fishing the creek and Tennessee River and the family history of the Wilhoites.

His funeral was at the historic Talucah Presbyterian Church, and interment was at the Ballinger Cemetery at Talucah.

The Kelly family had their monthly potluck meal at Barbara and Arthur Ray Summerford’s at Round Top Fri., April 17. They are descendants of Vernon and Louise Kelly of Battleground and Pleasant View. Linda Humphries, Anthony and Betty Kelly and Hilton Kelly attended.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Irene Dutton Pope of Andrews Chapel community. Irene is at home after a hospital stay recently.

Pleasant View Holy Church of Christ held their Spring Revival April 19-22. Brother Doug Rayburn from Lawrence County was the evangelist. Brother Ricky Ball is the Pleasant View pastor.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt sympathy to the following families: Danny and Connie Wallace and family in the death of his sister, Brenda Elaine Hardy; Waymon and Jo Ann Alexander and family in the death of his aunt, Paula Compton; Steve and Mary Terry and family in the death of his aunt, Martha Mae Singleton; Janet and Jerry Reynolds and family in the death of her aunt, Barbara Franklin; and also Helen Taylor and family in the death of her sister, Hazel Etheridge.

Forrest Chapel United Methodist women met Mon., April 13 at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The meeting opened with prayer for concerns of members attending. President Jennie Turney gave the devotional and reported on Mission Action Day, which she attended at Camp Sumatanga on April 11.

Adell Byford gave the program “Reaffirmation of the Resurrection.” She and a member, Ramona James re-enacted a gospel account of Matthew 28:1-7, when Mary Magdelene and the other Mary, upon finding Christ had risen, were entrusted as we are today to tell others the miracle they had witnessed. Afterwards, members enjoyed a salad and sandwich lunch served by Willodene King, hostess.

The Sisters in Christ Unit of Forrest Chapel’s United Methodist women met at the Freight House on Thur., April 9 at 6:30 p.m. After food and fellowship, Tonya Shubert gave the program on communications.

There are many ways to communicate through expression (smiles and frowns), physical gestures (hand shakes) and spoken words. Christianity is a relationship, and our communication through prayer is the essence of our relationship with God. The scripture was Matthew 7:7, Ask and it will be given you, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you.
