At a special called board meeting this morning, the Hartselle City Board of Education unanimously approved Debbie Queen as the next principal of F.E. Burleson Elementary.

Queen has been the music teacher at Burleson since 1998 and recently has held the title of lead teacher.

“I am very excited and humbled to be the principal at FEB,” Queen said. “I am a Burleson alumna. I love the students, faculty and the parents and I can’t wait to begin the next 100 years of F.E. Burleson.”

Burleson will celebrate 100 years as a school in 2016.

“I am so excited and happy to have someone like Debbie who is a servant leader,” said Hartselle City Schools Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson. “The search committee made up of teachers, parents and central office personnel had a tough choice because of the candidates involved.”

There were 55 applicants for the position, and seven interviews were conducted, with five of those being internal candidates.

Queen will officially begin the role July 1, 2015.
