Morgan County BOE meeting notes

The Morgan County Board of Education approved the following items at its regular meeting Thur., May 14:

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Falkville High School.  Approximately twenty-five (25) sixth-twelfth grade students and chaperones will travel to New York City, New York on August 31 through September 4 to experience a week of visiting educational venues.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Priceville High School.  One FCCLA student member and chaperone will travel to Washington, DC on July 3-10 so that the student may participate in the 2015 FCCLA National Leadership Conference.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from West Morgan High School. Two FCCLA student members and chaperone will travel to Washington, DC on July 3-10 so the students may participate in the 2015 FCCLA National Leadership Conference.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Danville Middle School/Danville High School.  Approximately twenty (20) fifth through eighth grade students and twenty (20) ninth through twelfth grade students and chaperones will travel to London, England on March 16-25, 2016, for the purpose of cultural and educational expansion.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Brewer High School.  Two students and chaperone will travel to Dearborn, Mich., June 7-10 for the students to compete in the National Ford Troubleshooting Contest.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Danville High School. The boys’ basketball teams and chaperones will travel to Oxford, Miss., June 10-12 to attend the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) team camp.

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Brewer High School.  Two students and chaperones will travel to Louisville, Ky., on June 20-27 for the purpose of competing in the Skills USA National Competition (cosmetology division).

•Approved out-of-state field trip request from Falkville High School. Ten girls’ basketball team members and chaperones will travel to Nashville, TN on June 11-12, 2015 to attend the Belmont University Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team Camp.

•Approved Weekly Writer three year license expiring June 30, 2018 for 177 teachers at a cost of $475 per teacher.  Total cost $84,075.00.  Includes two full days of professional development per year-dates to be determined.

•Approved plan for Morgan County Schools Extended School Year Program at Sparkman School effective June 9-11, 16-18 and July 7-9, 14-16 as presented.

•Approved request to use the gyms at Priceville High School and Priceville Elementary School to conduct the Priceville Basketball Camp on June 1-5.

•Approved suspension of Policy DJCA-3.10.1-SALARIES AND PAY RATES, to allow payday to be May 28, 2015 and July 30. 2015 instead of the last business day those two months.

•Approved Morgan County Schools Federal Programs 2015 summer schedule as presented.

•Approved request to conduct a basketball fundamental and skills camp at the Danville High School gymnasium May 26-28.

•Approved statement of work for Morgan County School District for 2015-16 from Chalkable (formerly STI).

Personnel Matters

•Resignation of Ricky Allen as varsity girls basketball coach at Brewer.

•Military leave for Amber King, teacher at Brewer and Falkville.

•Continued salary in lieu of sick leave for Rhonda Corder, teacher at Sparkman School.

•Resignation of Cindy Hill as volleyball coach at Sparkman School.

•Continued salary in lieu of sick leave for Diane Ryan, teacher at Lacey’s Spring School, effective for a total of four days.  Ms. Ryan was injured on-the-job.

•Three-year principal employment contracts effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018 for administrators Jill Jones Brown, Robert Elliott, David Estes, Mark Mason, Glenn Lang and Keith Harris

•Contract for Agriscience Extended School Year services with Andrew Brock, effective June 2, 2015 through July 21.

•Contract for Career Tech Mentoring Program services with Robert Bryson, effective March 16, 2015 through September 30.

•Catastrophic leave for Taleah Alexander, aide at Priceville Elementary School as needed through May 21.

•Contracts for tutoring services through September 30 with Kim Wenzler, Loronda Ward, Melanie Stewart, Beverly Stephens, Nicole Robinson, Hannah Roberts, Terri Pritchett, Kim Phillips, Rebekah Hopper, Cheryl Hall, Amie Hall, Robin Davidson, Mary Ann Culberson, Amelia Clark, Traci Cherry, Melanie Bryant and Donya Brewington.

•Contract with Tammy Wallace, Michelle Johnson, Becky Houk, Carolyn Parker and Rosemary Dobbins.

•Contract with Maria Kennedy to analyze and distribute ACCESS data for English Learner.

•Contract with Rhonda Corder to provide writing of student individualized education.

• Contract with Lisa Lang to provide hearing instruction to two eligible students for a total of seven hours per student during summer break.

•Reassign Holly Little from social studies to special education teacher at Danville High.

•Reassign Stephen Crouch from library aide at Danville Middle School to ISS aide at Danville High.

•Reassign of Fayna Workman from sixth-grade social studies to sixth grade reading teacher at West Morgan Middle School effective with school year 2015-2016.

•Reassign of Amanda Sparkman from sixth-grade math to fifth-grade reading teacher at West Morgan Middle.

•Reassign Brett Mooneyham from fifth-grade social studies to sixth-grade math teacher at West Morgan Middle School.

•Reassign of William Darrell Thompson from seventh and eighth grade English teacher to sixth grade English teacher at West Morgan Middle School.

•Reassign Melissa Brown from sixth-grade English teacher to seventh and eighth grade English teacher at West Morgan Middle School.

•Employ Shandi Rochelle Lindsey as countywide school nurse effective August 10.  This is a new position

•Promotion of Robin Scruggs to child nutrition manager at Priceville Junior High,  effective August 4. This is a new position.

•Resignation of Jesse Sexton as teacher, girls JV basketball coach and JV football coach at Danville High School.

•Resignation of Alaina Raper as first-grade teacher at Lacey’s Spring.

•Resignation of Jeb Beader as English – as – second – language teacher at West Morgan Elementary.

•Resignation of Felecia Dunn as countywide special education aide.

•Transferred Tracie Turrentine from fourth-grade, self-contained teacher at Eva to countywide instructional aide. She is replacing Valerie Powell, who retired.

•Transferred Layne Dillard from director of secondary education to principal at Sparkman School to replace Ronnie Moore, who retired.

•Transferred Dr. Cherie Humphries from principal at Priceville Elementary to Curriculum and Instructional  Director. She is replacing Dr. Anne Knowlton, who retired.
