Special events planned for June at Decatur Library

The Decatur Library will hold many special events for children, students and their families throughout the month of June.

For the youngest readers, the Book Babies program will be held on Wed., June 17, and Wed., June 24, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room. This is for babies and toddlers up to age three with their caregivers. The program includes rhymes, fast-paced songs and play. Children ages three and older are invited to the Kids N Kin story time on Monday, June 22 and 29. These will be held at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Department. On June 22, the story time will include special guests Anna and Elsa.

For school-age children who enjoy being creative, Lego Hour will be held on Thurs., June 25, at 4 p.m. Kids will play Lego charades. Lego Hour is free, and there is not sign up required.

Several other fun programs will be held. A movie day will be held on Wed., June 17, at 3:00 p.m. for school-age children and up. On Fri., June 19, at 2:30 p.m., the  McWane Center will visit the library for the Superhero Science program. The program will be held in the Children’s Department and will teach children about the science involved in superhero powers.  On Mon., June 22, older students, grades 6-12, are invited to play a life-size game of Clue at 6 p.m. in the Community Room.

For the entire family, visit the Decatur Public Library booth at 3rd Friday Downtown on the corner of Jones Park and Second Ave. on Fri., June 19, from 5-8 p.m. There will be a Lego table, balloons and other prizes. A book club for mothers and their daughters ages 8-12 will be held on Mon., June 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Participants are asked to read one or more books listed on the children’s library webpages, and then a discussion will be held on how girls can be heroes. Snacks will be provided. Another family event will be Star Wars Day Sat., June 27, from 2-4 p.m. There will be food, crafts and games. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

The library will be closed on Sun., June 21, to observe Father’s Day.
