Morgan County BOE receives clear audit

The Morgan County Board of Education received a report of no findings on their financial audit of the 2013-2014 fiscal year during their regularly scheduled board meeting Thursday night.

Denise Olive of the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts presented the report to the board. She said everything was submitted materially correct, and there were no problems.

“This is a huge deal for our school system,” Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. said. “We greatly appreciate all our staff that worked hard all year to keep our financial records straight. I know that’s a big undertaking, and that’s a great accomplishment for all our bookkeepers and those involved at every school.”

The board also recognized the winners of the 2014-2015 Morgan County Schools Anti-Bullying contests that included categories in poetry, songwriting, video, posters and more. Danville High School was the overall winning school for the campaign.

The board approved an agreement with the Alabama Association of School Boards for superintendent evaluation services.

Board Chairman Billy Rhodes said the services will include a public survey evaluation of Hopkins, which will be out in a few weeks.

“Everyone will soon be getting emails with a survey about our superintendent’s performance through SurveyMonkey,” Rhodes said. “This survey will not only evaluate the superintendent but also us as a board. There is space for your input and your comments. We hope everyone will utilize this anonymous feedback tool.”
