Morgan County BOE meeting notes

The Morgan County Board of Education approved the following agenda items at their regularly scheduled meeting Thur., July 10.

Field trips

•Approved a request for out of state travel from Falkville High School. Approximately twenty-five (25) students and their chaperones will travel to New York City, New York on Aug. 30-Sept. 4 to experience a week of educational venues.

•Approved a request for out of state travel from Falkville High School. Approximately 18 students and their chaperones will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., on July 17-18 to attend volleyball camp at Middle Tennessee State University.

Contracts

•Approved contract for services with Merrimack Hall for an eligible student to attend Project Up- Summer Camp June 1-12.

•Approved memorandum of agreement between The University of West Alabama and Morgan County Schools for UWA Teacher Connect.

•Approved payment of $13,000 to Alabama Association of School Boards for 2015-2016 annual dues.

•Approved payment of $150 to Alabama Association of School Boards-Legal Assistance Fund for 2015-2016 dues.

•Approved Morgan County Board of Education Budget Amendment Number Two as presented.

•Approved change order number two on the Falkville High School Additions and Renovations project for an add of $9,395.28 and 27 calendar days to the current contract sum/duration.

•Approved change order number two on the new MCS Transportation and Maintenance Facility project for a credit of (-$36,706.68) and an add of 24 calendar days to the current contract sum/duration.

•Approved agreement with the Alabama Association of School Boards for Superintendent Evaluation Services as presented.

•Approved revised effective date of employment for Geoff Walter, teacher/coach at Brewer High School as June 11.

•Accepted resignation/retirement notice from Milford Sandy Fields, teacher at Danville High School, effective Aug. 1.

•Accepted resignation letter from Joseph Hawkins, teacher and coach at Priceville Junior High School, effective June 15.

•Accepted resignation letter from James George, custodian at Danville Middle School, effective July 1.

•Approved school-to-school transfer of Derek Blagburn from special education (self-contained) teacher at Brewer High School to special education (self-contained) teacher, county-wide effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved school-to-school transfer of Heath Saint from health teacher at West Morgan High School to history teacher at Danville High School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved school-to-school transfer of Dawn Stiles NeSmith from special education teacher at Falkville High School to teacher-special education instructional coach, county-wide, effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Jean Ann Montgomery from kindergarten teacher to second grade teacher at Lacey’s Spring School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Lila Johnson from first grade teacher to intervention teacher at Priceville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Keri Rodgers from kindergarten teacher to first grade teacher at Priceville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Sydney Starkey from fourth grade teacher to second grade teacher at Priceville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Heather Clairday from first grade teacher to fourth grade teacher at Priceville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Anna Spradling from intervention teacher to kindergarten teacher at Priceville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved contract for services with Jean Ann Montgomery to provide tutoring services effective June 1 through Sept. 30.

•Approved contract for services with Chris Odom to serve as summer school teacher effective two days a week/six hours per day June 8- July 29.

•Approved contract for services with Marsha Smith to provide extended school year services for an eligible student for a total of 24 hours (June 8-July 31).

•Approved promotion of Pamela Hogeland to assistant CNP manager at Priceville Junior High School effective Aug. 5. This is a new position.

•Approved employment of Kenneth Edward Thomas as custodian at Priceville Junior High School effective July 13. This is a new position.

•Approved employment of Melanie Barber as aide at Priceville Junior High School effective Aug. 11. This is a new position.

•Approved promotion of Tina Turney to bookkeeper at Cotaco School effective Aug. 1. Ms. Turney will be replacing Joyce Dotson who retired.

•Approved transfer of Charles Holloway from county-wide instructional coach to chemistry/physics/physical science teacher at Priceville High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Holloway will be replacing Elizabeth Jackson who was non-renewed.

•Approved employment of Anders Lance Coggins as teacher at Brewer High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Coggins will be replacing Dan Styles who resigned.

•Approved employment of Kellis Leigh Dees as county-wide teacher (ESL) effective Aug. 5. Ms. Dees will be replacing Jeb Beder who resigned.

•Approved employment of Marcie McFalls as county-wide counselor (career tech) effective July 22. Ms. McFalls will be replacing Callie Rutherford Terry who resigned.

•Approved employment of Carmon Lovett as teacher (math) at Brewer High School effective Aug. 5. Ms. Lovett will be replacing Larry Raper who resigned.

•Approved promotion of Beth Corbett as CNP manager at West Morgan High School effective Aug. 4. Ms. Corbett will be replacing Linda Bice who retired.

•Approved employment of Nicolas Ryan Riley as teacher (science/biology) at Danville High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Riley will be replacing Jessie Sexton who resigned.

•Approved employment of Mitchell John Funk as teacher (band) at Eva/Cotaco/Brewer effective Aug. 5. Mr. Funk will be replacing Patrick Dailey who resigned.

•Approved within school reassignment of Charity Goodwin from secretary/bookkeeper to bookkeeper at Danville Neel Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Shelley Rhodes from secretary/bookkeeper to bookkeeper at West Morgan Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Lee Ann Davenport from secretary to bookkeeper at Union Hill School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Melissa Wright from secretary to bookkeeper at Falkville Elementary School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved within school reassignment of Judith Graveman from secretary to bookkeeper at Eva School effective school year 2015-2016.

•Approved employment of Nathan Chasse Sawyer as teacher (social science/career preparedness) at West Morgan High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Sawyer will be replacing Mike Johnson who was promoted.

•Approved employment of William Bruce Duncan as teacher (science) at Priceville Junior High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Duncan will be replacing Joey Hawkins who resigned.

•Approved employment of Patrick Wayne Sularin as librarian at Priceville High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Sularin will be replacing Shannon Hulse who was non-renewed.

•Approved promotion of Deborah Green to head custodian at Danville Neel Elementary School effective July 13. Ms. Green will be replacing Pat Payne who retired.

•Approved promotion of Judy C. Smith to CNP Assistant Manager at Danville Neel Elementary School effective Aug. 5. Ms. Smith will be replacing Leisha Bowen who was promoted.

•Approved employment of Haley Hardin Roberts as teacher (math/drivers-ed/coach) at Falkville High School effective Aug. 5. Ms. Roberts will be replacing Gary Pressley who retired.

•Approved employment of Erica Shea Eaton as teacher (science) at Falkville High School effective Aug. 5. Ms. Eaton will be replacing Yancey Randolph who retired.

•Approved employment of Elizabeth Whetstone Waldorf as teacher (visual arts) at Priceville High School/Priceville Junior High School effective Aug. 5. This is a new position.

•Approved employment of Kristen Tanner as teacher (special education) for Morgan County Schools effective Aug. 5. Ms. Tanner will be replacing Dawn NeSmith who is recommended for transfer.

•Approved employment of Lucy Littrell as teacher (SLP) for Morgan County Schools effective Aug. 5. Ms. Littrell will be replacing Ann Harrison who retired.

•Approved employment of Kenneth Charles Lopez as school counselor at Falkville High School effective Aug. 1. Mr. Lopez will be replacing Ken James who retired.

•Approved employment of Ethan Lake as teacher (AG) at Danville High School effective Aug. 5. Mr. Lake will be replacing Sandy Fields who retired.

•Approved employment of Houston Blackwood as principal at Lacey’s Spring School effective July 20. Mr. Blackwood will be replacing Mark Edwards who resigned.

•Approved reemployment of Will Weaver as bus driver, county-wide, effective Aug. 7.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Elaine Watts, custodian at Danville High School, effective Oct. 1.

•Accepted resignation from Kathy Ranson, custodian at Priceville High School, effective July 1.

•Approved contract for services with Janice Vest to provide graduation exam testing services for Morgan County Schools July 6-7. Approved employment of Lauren Hathcock as teacher (SPE Pre School) for Morgan County Schools effective Aug. 5. Ms. Hatcock will be replacing Kelley Spangler who resigned.

•Accepted resignation as resource teacher at Sparkman School from Marsha Smith effective July 9. Accepted resignation as county-wide instructional coach from Jonathan Barron effective July 8.
