Seventh and eighth grade students at Lacey’s Spring School culminated a study of their heritage with the annual presentation of the Live Wax Museum. The students began their research on their heritage and family history with a visit to the Morgan County Archives in late September. The students have researched where their families originated from as well as events in history and stories about their family members.

The students are also graded on this project and have four criteria they are judged on: The boards for their displays, quotes from the person if possible, a report on the family member they are representing, and very importantly, staying still and in character during the Live Wax Museum.

Lacey’s Spring is a strong and helpful community even from the early days of the settling of the area. The name came from a particular family, with several old family names still prominent in the community today.

The community was very proud when a school opened and still shows strong support today. Many children attending the school today have parents who once attended the school as well.

The Live Wax Museum was enjoyed by and between the morning and afternoon sessions. Over 300 people came through to view the student’s hard work and labors. Each student chose a family member to represent and honor, and dressed and built displays for their project. The students also had to stand perfectly still as if simulating a wax figure. Each student also had a red button in front of their display, when a visitor stepped on the button the students came alive and told the story of the person they were honoring.
