Priceville Park & Recreation Board made plans for two Christmas events at its regular monthly meeting November 23.
The town’s annual Christmas Parade will be held Sat., Dec. 5, starting at 2 p.m. and a Christmas dinner for senior citizens will follow on Dec. 16.
The parade will form on North Bethel Road, beginning at 1 p.m. and follow a route that consists of Bethel Road, Greenfield and Skidmore Streets and Faye Drive.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the makers of the top three floats and the town is providing candy for Santa to give to children lining the parade route.
Featured units in the parade route will include Priceville High School’s Marching Band and JROTC cadets.
There is no cost to participate in the parade; however, participants are asked to sign up at Town Hall.
A turkey and ham Christmas dinner for seniors will be served Wed., Dec. 16, at 11 a.m.
The board also agreed to book Natchez Trace as entertainers for the 20th Annual Priceville Cruise-In. Car Show at 2015 rates. Board member/Councilman Tommy Perry reported that a replacement tennis court in the town’s park has been completed. He also said work is scheduled to be completed soon on a basketball court and a handicapped accessible merry-go-round.
Mayor Melvin Duran reported that a group of teachers at Priceville Elementary School are planning to form a chorus to sing Christmas carols for the entertainment of residents during the holiday season.
PHS Ambassadors
sponsor food drive
Priceville High School Ambassadors are collecting canned food for distribution to needy families in the Priceville area before the Christmas holiday.
The food they collect will be added to nonperishable foods donated by members of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, sorted and boxed and delivered to recipients.
Canned goods will be received at the school through Fri., Dec. 4.
“The Ambassadors organized and are leading the food drive to show their support for our community,” said co-sponsor Kim Holmes. “This is the second year for them to head up a canned food drive and the first year when all of the food they collect will stay in the Priceville community.”
