More than 30 families from the Falkville area will have food and snacks for Christmas and several children will have toys under the tree thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Falkville Lions Club. The club held their annual Christmas giveaway Sat., Dec. 19, at the Falkville Fire Station.
Families came by and picked up the gifts the club had purchased for children on Saturday. Each family received a box of food including canned goods and a ham or turkey and a plate of homemade snacks and goodies prepared by friends and family of the club members. The gifts for the children were based on their gender and their age. Several bikes were ready to be picked up as well during the event.
Most of the names received are through Falkville School who provide the club with a list of names of those needing help during the Christmas season.
Refreshments were provided for the families as they came to pick up their food and gifts.
The club raises money throughout the year to sponsor this event. Money is raised from a golf tournament and a ham and turkey shoot. Local churches also help the club.
Club president Terry Napier says the club works hard all year to help those in the community during the Christmas season.
