Falkville council sets aside day for firefighters

Falkville‘s Town Council is honoring its 36 volunteer firefighters with a proclamation, an awards program and an appreciation Day reception.
Mayor Bob Ramey announced at a work session December 29 he will present a proclamation for council consideration at the next regular meeting on January 5 to set aside Wed., Jan. 6, as “Falkville Volunteer Fire Department Appreciation Day.”
In addition, the firefighters will be guests of honor at a reception to be held in the town hall auditorium following the council meeting. Refreshments will be served.
At the request of Police/Fire Chief Chris Free, approval was given for a new awards program, which will recognize the firefighters for their individual accomplishments. A permanent framed display of 17 different performance ribbons will be placed in the Fire Department. The ribbons will be presented to firefighters based on their completion of advanced training as well as other accomplishments.
The proclamation reads as follows:
WHEREAS, Falkville Volunteer Fire Department personnel and personnel from other organizations in the fire, life safety and public health sector, come together to protect and aid the pubic in the event of an emergency and non-life threatening services; and
WHEREAS, every day Falkville Volunteer Fire Department personnel risk their own safety and personal property in the performance of their duties to protect our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Falkville Volunteer Fire Department are our first and best defense against all emergencies that may threaten our community, whatever their nature; and
WHEREAS, Falkville Volunteer Fire Department personnel are ready to respond and aid people twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, Falkville Volunteer Fire Department personnel are a vital part of our community who maintain safety and others in times of crisis, and volunteer their services to our town and in our schools; and
WHEREAS, Falkville Volunteer Fire Department personnel are responders that are highly trained, specialized workers who contribute their excellent skills and knowledge for the public good and for no pay; and
WHEREAS, the personnel of Falkville Volunteer Fire Department undergo significant education and training and personal sacrifice in order to achieve the expertise required to respond to every type of emergency situation.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Bob Ramey, Mayor of the Town of Falkville, in the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, January 6, as “Falkville Volunteer Fire Department Appreciation Day.”
