Dr. Cynthia McCarty, State Board of Education member representing District 6, visited Hartselle City Schools last week. Dr. McCarty, along with superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson and Dr. Dee Dee Jones, Director of Teaching and Learning, toured each of the six schools in the Hartselle district.

Kim Jared shared Project Lead the Way at Barkley Bridge and was asked if she would present it at an Alabama Association of School Board (AASB) meetings in the future. At Crestline, McCarty talked with children in Lisa Shelton’s classroom, which no longer contains desks. She was also impressed with the library and the use of the facility by students. At Hartselle Junior High Shane Alexander shared the IMPACT program and the benefits the students are receiving from participation in the exercise program.

Burleson Principal Debbie Queen showed McCarty the outdoor classroom and the success of Rose Stansberry as the English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor. Dr. McCarty was also very impressed with the Health Occupation classes and the lab at Hartselle High School. She also talked with students in the engineering class as well.

“I am so impressed and blown away with the incredible leadership and instruction at the schools in Hartselle. Everything is very student centered, doing what will help the student the most,” McCarty said after the tour of the schools.
