Central office chili wins “40 years” monthly contest

In continued celebration of 40 Years of Hartselle City Schools, each month of the 2015-2016 school year a contest between the schools takes place. The central office also is included in the monthly challenges.

August kicked off with a table decoration contest at the Teacher Institute, September was a bowling tournament, October was a Halloween costume contest, November was a corn hole tournament, December was a dessert contest and January was a chili cook-off.

Each contest has brought out a lot of good-hearted rivalry and a lot of fun and camaraderie between each school and the central office. There are several good cooks and athletes in the school district.

Each school and the central office put their best foot or crock-pot of chili forward to be judged. Judges for the chili cook-off included Dr. Cherie Humphries, Director of Elementary Education for Morgan County Schools, Dwight Satterfield, Operations and Safety Director for Decatur City Schools and Randy Garrison, Publisher of the Hartselle Enquirer.

Each school was visited along with the central office and each judge ranked the chili independently. After the votes were calculated the central office, Hartselle Junior High and F.E. Burleson each received a first place vote.

After all votes were tallied the results were:

1st Place- Central Office, 2nd Place-F.E. Burleson, 3rd Place-Hartselle Junior High, 4th Place-Tie between Hartselle High and Hartselle Intermediate, 6th Place-Crestline and 7th-Place Barkley Bridge.

LeeAnne Pettey, Special Services Coordinator, cooked the Central Office chili, which was a white turkey chili. Pettey shared the recipe also:

2 cans great northern beans

2 cans cannellini/white kidney beans
