The Danville Lady Hawks were amped up as they hosted the Haleyville Lady Lions for the area championship. Danville had gotten a first round bye since they were in a three-team area so they were fresh when they welcomed the Lions on February 10th.

The game started slowly as the first points did not come until two minutes into the game. However, Danville would get things going after hat. Scores from Tabetha Hutto, Brianna Downs and Sheila Cordova would give the Hawks a 9-4 lead. Haleyville would cut it to 9-6 but Danville would extend it back to 16-6. Jolee Cole would come up with a three point play just before the buzzer to make it 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hawks continue to tack on to their lead. Four points from Callie Ryan along with scores from Cole and Gracie George would give them a 26-6 lead. Two back-to-back three pointers from Hutto and George would make the game 32-10. At this point, it was starting to get ugly but Haleyville was going give in just yet. The lions would go on a 6-1 run to cut the score to 33-16. However, Danville would close the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 46-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lions would make a last ditch effort to get back into the game. Haleyville would manage to cut the score down to 51-29. However, that would be the closest the Lions would come. Scores by Tara Tuck, Jolee Cole and Sheila Cordova would make the lead 59-29. By the end of third quarter the Hawks held a 63-34 lead.

At this point, Danville had full control of the game and would end up cruising to an 86-51 victory as they claimed their area championship.

Player(s) of the game: Full court press defense. When a team wins a game 86-51, it is hard to pick a certain player because each one contributed. The most important part of this game was the Lady Hawk’s full court press. They started in it almost immediately and completely suffocated the Lions for the whole game forcing numerous turnovers.
