Mt. Zion Baptist Hosts Singspiration

With the new year underway, you’ve likely laid out some goals that you hope to accomplish and a path to get you there. We have too. Our goal is to help even more shelter pets find loving adopters like you. We know that you care as much as we do and that’s why we want to know if you’re up for a challenge to help in this mission. We promise it will take less than two minutes and its something you can do right now.

First, run a search online at adoptapet.com using your zip code to see adoptable pets in your own community. You can search for cats, dogs, bunnies, horses and even farm animals. Next, you can pick a pet that you want to help. Then, using the social media icons on that pet’s profile, share that pet on Facebook, twitter, pinterest, or via email with a friend who might be looking to adopt. Your share could be the game changing moment in a homeless pet’s life. Do this every day for a week. Or even better, do it every day for the entire year and let’s see if we can empty out the shelters and get every pet into a loving home.

On Sun., Jan. 31, at 6 p.m., the south Morgan County churches met for Singspiration. Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Falkville was the host church. A large crowd from the participating churches enjoyed congregation singing and the special music of hymns, contemporary and gospel.

Some of the singers and musicians were Vivian Summerford and Brother Pearl Jenkins from Round Top Community Church, Jeannie Alexander and Emma Anders playing piano and violin from New Life-God’s Church. Mt. Zion’s choir sang spirited songs. Refreshments were served in the fellowship hall. The next Singspiration will be May 29, and the host church will be announced later.

Jeff Shadden was the guest speaker for McKendree UMC’s Celebrate Recovery worship service Fri., Jan. 29. Jeff has a ministry for recovering addicts and spoke about drug addicts and recovery programs. He helps with Milestones Recovery Ministry in Hartselle as well as others. Rendall Drummond and his family ate supper with the group at 5:30 p.m. Everyone enjoyed the lasagna, salad and dessert in the fellowship hall. The group met in the education building for their session of special interest discussions at 7 p.m. The next week on Fri., Feb. 5, those present had fellowship and encouragement during the service, then had a bean potluck supper and group activities.

The Round Top Community Church youth were in charge of the worship service Sun., Jan. 31. Kirk Mize, youth pastor at a church near Auburn and a student at Auburn University was the guest speaker. Youth leaders are Allison and Jack Albert. The pastor is Brother Pearl Jenkins.

The youth service, Merge 22, at Fairview: The Grace Place, is led by Seth Coleman, the youth director. The group is based on Philippians 2 and the name comes from that scripture. The youth and some adults meet on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
