It was an exciting game as the Danville Lady Hawks traveled to Wallace State Community College for the Northwest Regional Semi finals. The Hawks had hopes of advancing to Birmingham but first they had to get through the West Limestone Lady Wildcats.
West Limestone would take the initial lead 2-0 but back-to-back three pointer would give Danville the lead 6-2. Limestone would cut the score to 6-5 and then take the lead back 8-6. Jolee Cole would knock in her first three pointer to make the lead 9-8 and then Tara Tuck would tack on another basket to make it 11-8. The two teams would continue to go back and forth. A three-point play from Cole would give Danville a 16-13 lead but West Limestone would cut it to 16-15 to end the first quarter.
Limestone would quick take back the lead 19-16 to start the second quarter but Tabetha Hutto would tie it back up with a three pointer at 19-19. Cole would add another five points as Limestone held the lead 26-24. The Wildcats would then go on a 8-2 run to close the quarter and take a 34-26 lead into halftime.
The story of the game was quickly coming down to free throws. Danville maxed out their fouls in the first half and West Limestone took advantage as they shot 13/14 behind the free throw line.
In the second quarter Danville would try to climb back into the game. However, Limestone would start the quarter off worth a three pointer to make the lead now 37-26. 5 points from Hutto and Gracie George would cut the score to 37-31 and then the Hawks would cut it to 39-34. However, West Limestone would go on another run at 7-2 to end the quarter and take a 46-36 lead into the final quarter.
Down by 10 points, Danville began to play with a do or die attitude as soon as the quarter started. The Hawks amped up their defense by playing a very aggressive full court press defense. Jolee Cole would star the quarter with 5 points to cut the score to 46-41. Tara Tuck would cut that down to 46-43 as it looked like Danville may complete the comeback. However, that would be the closest the Hawks would come as they would eventually fall 64-57.
Player of the game: Tara Tuck and Tabetha Hutto. It was a very frustrating game with a lot of fouls and missed shots and a lot of teams could have folded early but the determination from the two leaders kept this team going until the end
