Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting and awards banquet Tues, March 29 at Hartselle High School. The event will be held in the school cafeteria. A reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Freight House will be catering the event.
Native son and local news celebrity Greg Screws will be the guest speaker. Screws is a 1976 graduate of Morgan County High School where he played basketball. His father the late, Truman Screws served as superintendent of Morgan County Schools and his mother Jean was a physical education teacher. Screws is currently holds a news anchor position with Channel 19, WHNT TV in Huntsville. He is fondly known for hosting the popular “deal or dud” segment at the news station.
The awards portion of the event will be held after dinner. The 2016 winners of the Dr. Thomas M. Guyton Humanitarian Award, the E. R.Roberts Business Award, the John. J. Sparkman Citizenship Award, and the Tommy Ed Roberts Civic Award will be announced and presented at that time.
Retiring board members, Larry Murphree, Nancy Busby Solberg, Dwight Tankersley and Les McCollum will be honored and thanked for their service to the board.
A new slate of directors will be announced at the meeting as well.
Nominations for the upcoming board openings include, Olivia Maze, Kathy Summerford, Randy Garrison, Dr. Chris Widner, and Dr. Franklin Penn. If elected, they will join current board members Rob Payne, Arthur Peck, Janan Downs, Dena Nagel, Dr. Chuck Gill and Dan Copeland.
Outgoing chairman of the board Rob Payne will give an update of the past year as he passes the gavel to incoming chairman Dan Copeland.
Tickets are still available at the Chamber Office until Fri., March 25. All are welcome to attend the banquet, and help support the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce.
