Back Country Trail Riders to host membership drive

The Backcountry Trail Riders of North Alabama is hosting a membership drive Sat., April 16. They will ride out from Piney Chapel at 10 a.m. to Elkmont then back to Piney Chapel’s pavilion for a picnic with free hamburgers and hotdogs. There will also be an auction with horse items. Everyone is welcome to come and bring friends and family. For more information, call 256-974-3894 or 256-347-5046.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers for the following who are on the prayer list: Kenneth Moses, June Austin, Zonnia Duke, Jo Lewis, Phylis Matheny, Kane Hogan, Lorine Vernon, Jamie Johnson, Denise Brackeen, Tommy Jenkins, Dennis Olive, John Sudduth, James Horton, Donald Lentz, Curtis Parker, John Gillott, Charlie Claibourne, Keith Jones, Diane Young, Linda Yancy, Mr. Bobby, Spencer Glasgow, Mrs. Davis, her sister and family.

On Wed., March 9, former Week Day Deli patrons met for lunch at Holy Smoke BBQ. They celebrated March birthdays of Bobbie Nix on March 13 and Wendi Westmoreland on March 11. Everyone was glad to get the news that member Jeff Reid was improving at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Next month’s birthday members will be Danny Tillman on April 4 and Sandra Smith on April 20.

Connie Wilbourn was the hostess for Neel UMC women’s meeting at her home Wed., March 9, at 7 p.m. with 14 members in attendance. President Susan Long conducted the meeting and Karen Randolph presented the Easter program. Nine of the members planned their trip, March 18-20, to the Phil Waldrop “Women of Joy” Conference in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Connie served refreshments and Susan adjourned the meeting.

The Southwest Morgan County Easter Sunrise Service will be at Pine Street Baptist Church in Falkville at 6 a.m. Sun., March 27. Everyone is welcome to stay for food and fellowship following the service.

Brother Mike Vest welcomed those attending the McKendree UMC Thrive service Sun., March 13, at the Bridge Center at 2:30 p.m. Noah Battles led the prayer and praise service and Tammy Vest led the singing. Brother Mike chose II Corinthians 5:16-21 as his scripture for his message. He related spring and the creation of a new being reconciled to Christ. The refreshments were on a St. Patrick’s Day theme and everyone enjoyed the fellowship. Beth Shelton was in charge of the food and Maria Ochoa was in charge of the sound system.

McKendree UMC will have its Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. Sun., March 27. Afterward, everyone is invited to the fellowship hall for brunch or breakfast prepared by the Sunday school classes and men’s group. Regular Sunday school and morning worship will follow at the 9:30 and 10:45 time.

The youth groups and volunteers from five area churches presented Stations of the Cross Sun., March 6, at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center. Stations of the Cross is a portrayal of events in the Life of Christ on the day of His crucifixion with 13 stations that traced Jesus’ steps. Participants used their five senses along their powerful journey. All those attending throughout the community were inspired by the powerful message. Churches involved in the production were Salem UMC, Day Star Hartselle Campus, Moss Chapel UMC, Forrest Chapel UMC and McKendree UMC.

The men’s club and guests at Forrest Chapel UMC had breakfast Sun., March 20, at 7 a.m. Following the meal, the men had their planning session.

Neel UMC sponsored a community-wide Egg Hunt and picnic Sun., March 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. The church choir met at 5 p.m. to prepare for the Easter Sunday service on March 27.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Carmen DeButy. Carmen had lived in Tanner Heights and worked at Mar-Mac Realty and Mister Henry’s Neighborhood Restaurant. She had been sick for months and fought a good fight. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Heartfelt prayers go out also for Jeff Reid of Corinth community and his family. He returned home from Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham Mon., March 14, with Hospice Care

Belinda Ricks was in charge of the ham and Easter potluck lunch for senior citizens day at Corinth West Baptist Church. Thirty area and visitors from Emeus Baptist Bible study group in Logan met at 11 a.m. on March 15. Iva Nell Rogers chose the Beatitudes for her devotional. She used colored beads on a leather string to illustrate the scripture. Hilton Kelly led a special prayer time for Brother Glenn Miller and Jeff Reid. GayNell Wilhite prayed for those on the request list and Iva Nell Rogers blessed the food. Anita Reid had made Easter candy bags for everyone.

After four games of Bingo, volunteers took meals to the shut-ins in the community. Brother Glenn Miller had surgery Tues., March 15, at UAB Hospital. He was doing well, but will not be able to preach for a month. Our thoughts and prayers are with him. On Easter Sunday at 10 a.m., the women’s group will sponsor an egg hunt and serve refreshments to the children and volunteers.

There will be a Front Pew Shower for Cynthia Jones, bride-elect of Justin Turrentine on Sun., April 3. They have selections at Belk, Target and Wal-Mart.

Special happy birthday wishes go out this week for Delaney Emmons on March 23, Marla Robinson and Jim Walker on March 24, Emmalyn Wallace on March 25, Preston Bryant on March 26, Dickie Gillott on March 27, and Danny Tillman on April 4.

Belated happy birthday wishes for Jennifer Anders on March 21.

Belated wedding anniversary wishes go out this week for Bo and Kristen Sparkman on their 2nd anniversary March 22. Happy wedding anniversary wishes also go out this week for Mark and Julie Campbell for their 20th wedding anniversary on March 23.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church will host a Good Friday service and Communion March 25 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
