Mt. Zion Church to host Swamp John’s fundraiser

There will be a Swamp John’s fundraiser at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Fri., April 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. You can eat in or take out plates of shrimp, fish or chicken for $10. Proceeds go to the church.

Loretta Gilstrap has been conducting the youth and children’s puppet ministry at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The programs are presented on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. Everyone is welcome to attend.

On Wed., March 30, McKendree UMC had potluck supper and two study groups met. Brother Mike Vest led the men and women’s unit in discussion of the Revelations. Lynn Hogan led the women’s study group on the subject of prayer. The computer class met on Thur., March 3, at 10 a.m. at the Bridge Center on New Cut Road. Computer classes are expected to continue into summer.

Ronny and Jenny Asherbranner of Mt. Nebo Community hosted their family Easter meal Sun., March 27. Those attending were J. P. and Melinda Haynes, Carson and Avery, Matthew and Alex Asherbranner and Luke and Julie Asherbranner. The children also enjoyed an egg hunt at their grandmother’s that afternoon.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week for Hattie Mae Hardin, formerly of Evergreen, Massey and Summerford Nursing Home. She had a bad fall on Sun., March 27, and is in the Huntsville Hospital.

Terry Boyd, formerly of Massey community, hosted Easter lunch at her Decatur home for her family and her late husband Jerry’s family. Those attending were Carolyn Besnyl, Matt Roper, DeWayne and Mandy Roper, Rebekah and Robert Mobley, Daniel Mobley, Randy Besnyl and Joyce O’Neal.

The college and career small group met Thur., March 31, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Fairview: The Grace Place. They ate and had fellowship and a study led by Valerie Williamson. On Easter Sunday, Brother Milan Dekich conducted worship services at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. at Fairview.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week, Ottie Lou Self from March 6, 1930, to Nov. 2006; Odis “Junior” Lacy from March 11, 1927, to Aug. 27, 2006; Fay Edwards from March 22, 1931, to June 25, 2007; and Arrie “Gertrude” Crawford, from March 22, 1925, to Feb. 9, 2015.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt sympathy to Belinda and Johnny Vest and family in the death of her grandmother, Beulah Henson, also Christian love and prayers for the following soldiers: Andy LaFavor-Navy, Wes Parker, Justen Terry-Navy, Jeremy White, Anthony Thomas, Bryant Spears-Marines, Jimmy Frisbee-Guam, Lee Thompson and Brad Wallace. God bless all of our troops and their families and God Bless America.

McKendree UMC had a Sunrise service, Easter Sunday. Brother Mike Vest conducted the indoor and outdoor event. Hank Summerford sang, “He Still Rolls the Stone Away.” Brother Mike and those attending went out to the cross in front of the church. They held hands in a circle and sang “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross.” Afterward, everyone enjoyed breakfast in the fellowship hall prepared by the Sunday school classes.
