Junior Auxiliary enjoys field trip

American Legion Junior Auxiliary members enjoyed a field trip Sat., April 2, to the Humble Hearts Goat Farm in Elkmont. Members in attendance were Amber Train, Makayla Cooper, Laurie Cooper and Jenna Cooper Dow. The girls got a history lesson about sheepherding. They also learned about the care of the goats and were allowed to feed the goats as well. They enjoyed carrying the goats around while at the farm. Other activities included watching goat cheese being made and tasting the cheese afterwards. Those attending enjoyed a great time. Following the trip to the farm, the group enjoyed dinner at the Fried Tomato Cafe in Ardmore.

On Thur., April 14, the Decision America Prayer Rally will be held at noon on the Capitol front steps, in Montgomery with the President of Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham.

Neel United Methodist women met April 6, at 7 p.m. The meeting was hosted by Jill Wallace at her home in Neel. Members who attended the Women of Joy conference in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., March 18-20, reported on their trip. The event was a Phil Waldrop project. Jill served refreshments to those attending. Their next meeting will be Wed., May 4, at 7 p.m.

The Women’s group at Corinth West Baptist Church met at 10 a.m. Sun., April 3. Shanda Garner presided and Shirley Pope did the devotional on rules to live by; just for today see the miracles around you and resolutions for everyday life; not just the New Year. Gayle Miller prayed for those requested. They also planned the menu for Senior Citizen’s Day, which will be held April 19, at 11 a.m. The menu will be dry beans, cornbread, potatoes, hashbrown casserole, slaw, desserts, tea and drinks. Their annual women’s conference will be Sat., June 18, with registration from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and the program starting at 9:30 a.m. There will be coffee and a continental breakfast. The main topic will be Prayer and the speaker will be Angela Morgan. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall and gym at noon. There will be door prizes, programs and take home gifts for everyone. Christie Guthrie is in charge of the food for the conference. Everyone is welcome to attend. After the business session, Dawn Shedd served French and apple toast and breakfast casseroles. GayNell Wilhite served juices, coffee and water. Kevin and Cynthia Smithson will speak at Corinth West Baptist Church at the Sunday morning worship service, April 17, at 11 a.m. about their mission work in Nepal. There will be a potluck meal following the service.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church welcomed Mason Yaudes as a new member by baptism on Feb. 7, 2016.

A front pew bridal shower was held at Shady Grove Baptist Church Sun., April 3. The honorees were Cynthia Jones and Justin Turrentine.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Andy LaFavor on April 1, Doris Spinks and Bobby Dobbins on April 4, Gary Long on April 6, Brantlee Bibb and Oscar Roden on April 9, Andrea Carter, Crystal Carter and Gina Lacy on April 10. Happy birthday wishes also go out this week for Jada C. Keeton, Jared Callahan and Preston Turrentine on April 13, Sarah Logan and Wesley Maltbie on April 15, and Lelderine Lacy and Jaden Whisenant on April 17.

Special happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Louis and Betty Depreast as they celebrated their 56th anniversary on April 2, Tab and Sheila Terrell celebrated their 40th anniversary on April 2, Phillip and Virginia Prater celebrated their 28th anniversary on April 12 and to Buddy and Ruby Lacy as they celebrate their 45th anniversary on April 17 and Johnny and Belinda Vest celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary on April 18.

Special get-well wishes go out this week for Joyce 0’ Neal, Mary McCay, Barry Halford, Mark Nix and Hattie Mae Hardin.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Brother Jimmy Henderson. Brother Jimmy was pastor at Cedar Plains Christian Church and Valhermoso Christian Church for many years and was a teacher in the Morgan County School system. He graduated from Falkville High School in the class of 1949 and had been the class leader in planning reunions.

Former patrons of the Weekdays Deli met for their monthly lunch April 13, at noon. The group appreciates Holy Smoke BBQ staff’s continued hospitality and food. The birthday members of the attendees were Danny Tillman and Sandra Smith. Everyone missed Jeff Reid, who passed away Sun., March 20, at his home in the Corinth community. They read the note of appreciation from Jeff’s widow, Anita Reid. The next luncheon will be May 11.

McKendree UMC hosted a community picnic supper of hotdogs, sides, desserts and drinks in the fellowship hall Fri., March 25. The worship service was conducted by Brother Mike Vest. Noah Battles led the praise and worship of Easter songs. Tammy Vest and Tom Summerford also led the music. Brother Mike’s message was mainly about Jesus praying in the Garden. Afterward, Holy Communion was observed. The Celebrate Recovery members helped with communions and the meal. Carolyn Besnyl was in charge of communion. The Celebrate Recovery groups met afterward in the education building. There are men and women groups for discussion of any problems.
