Priceville Town Council met Mon., July 11, to discuss approve a list of bills and discuss a public hearing date for Adam Davidson of Davidson Homes LLC as he moves forward with plans for the Woodland Farm subdivision close to the new Priceville High School.

The public hearing has been set for Mon., Aug. 8, after the town’s council approved the addition of grinder pumps with the subdivision’s development at their June 13 meeting.

“We’ve approved 115 grinder pumps to go into that subdivision,” said Priceville Mayor Melvin Duran. “Eva and Somerville both use grinder pumps, and Priceville has a few, but we want to use more of them, especially in this subdivision.”

As discussed in the June 13 council meeting, the grinder pumps for sewage materials, using pressure systems, are more durable than Priceville’s widely used gravity pumps.

Priceville Town Council also discussed Davidson’s new plans for slight expansion on the subdivision’s ponds. Duran said the planning commission is looking at the changes in relation to the development’s sewers, roads and drainage systems to make sure everything “flows” correctly.

“We just need to make sure we protect the people downstream,” Duran said.

Another detail the town council discussed was Davidson’s purchase of about 2-and-a-half acres of the town’s land for entry and exit into the subdivision in the area off Upper River Road. The sale would be off of the town’s 11.66 acres of land next to Priceville’s Town Hall.

“Personally,” Duran said in the meeting, “it’s my opinion that we use that area for other buildings, but that’s just my opinion.” The topic of the sale is still up for debate.

Priceville Council approved $1,500 to go to the Mental Health Center of North Alabama as well as some other small allocations toward trips council members are taking related to Council business.

Duran also noted two upcoming events of interest. The first is the American Legion’s pancake breakfast fundraiser Sat., July 23, at Unit 15 off Highway 31 in Decatur. Breakfast costs $5 and includes pancakes, sausage and a drink. The proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Blue Star Mothers of Morgan County and the American Legions Auxiliary Unit 15.

The second event Duran mentioned is the North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments 50th Anniversary open house. That takes place Thur., July 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel off 6th Ave. in Decatur.

The Council discussed and approved three other topics:

• Approval for $3,854 to go toward the Morgan County Economic Development Association for membership dues.

• Approval for $250 to the International Institute of Municipal Clerks for Town Clerk Connie Childers and Court Clerk Kelly Dean membership dues.

• Apoproval for $2,378.76 toward the update on six stop signs and stands for the town from EconoSigns.
