Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23, will celebrate the 229th year since the signing of the Constitution of the United States. This tradition was started in 1955 when the National Society of the daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to set aide the week of Sept. 17-23 as an annual observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was adopted and signed into law in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower.

The Constitution of the United States of America is the oldest constitution still in active use in the world today and is the basic document of our republic that protects the liberties of all citizens through written law.

The Stephens Chapter of the NSDAR is one of the many thousands of DAR Chapters nationwide who is vigorously working to promote and celebrate this commemoration. With the cooperation and help of our community leaders we have been successful in creating the awareness of this important document with citizens throughout the county.

Stephen Chapter NSDAR sincerely appreciates the enthusiasm of the city mayors, the School Superintendent, school principals, retired teachers and educators, librarian newspapers, radio stations and television stations. Aside from this, our American flags of the United States were flown in all towns and bells rang at 3 p.m. Sept. 17, to commemorate the exact time of the signing of the Constitution in 1787.
