Fitzgerald Family Holds Reunion

The Fitzgerald family met at the Massey Volunteer Fire Dept. Community Center for their annual reunion Sat., Sept. 10. Enjoying lunch and visiting were the families of Frank Fitzgerald, Neal Fitzgerald, Ralph Fitzgerald and Jessie Fitzgerald England. These families included Holmes, Laney, Oakley, Johnson, Couch, Sims, Pickens and others as well. Janie Mae Fitzgerald Holmes was the oldest of the descendants attending. The Fitzgerald’s and their descendants have been instrumental in the founding and leadership of Cedar Plains Christian, Falkville Christian and Piney Grove Christian Churches. Audie Mae Fitzgerald of the Frank Fitzgerald family is 101 years old and in a nursing home. Many area residents will remember Mavis McCaghren Fitzgerald, widow of the late Hugh Fitzgerald, who taught high school Business Ed. at Danville. She is a resident at Summerford Nursing Home.

The 13th Annual Dry Creek Farm, Gas, Oil and Advertising Swap Meet will be held Sept. 23-24 at Susan Moore. There will be vintage gasoline and oil collectibles, country store items, pedal cars, old toys, gas pumps, signs and lots more. The food and drink, for the event will be supplied by DD Barbecue. The Neel UMC women met at the home of Michelle Randolph Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Twelve attended and enjoyed Jonnie Russell’s program and Michelle’s refreshments. She used the Book of James for her scripture. Their next meeting will be Oct. 5.

Jenny Asherbranner, the Falkville Public Librarian has posted announcements for the Board meeting Tues., Sept. 20, at 4:30 p.m. Board members are Rhona Summerford, President, Kay Farrer, Secretary and Pam MacDonald is the Treasurer. Arthur Orr, State Senator from Decatur, visited the library on Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. He has been very helpful in getting grants and other funds for the Falkville Library and others all over Alabama. Jenny, the Board and the South Morgan area really appreciate Senator Orr.

Tim Garner used two films on grandparents and grandchildren for his part of the program, honoring grandparents at Corinth West Baptist Church Sun., Sept. 11, at the 11 a.m. service. Shanda Garner spoke about the importance of grandparents in her life and that of her children. She had gifts for those present and ask them to come stand at the front and receive their gifts from their grandchildren. Taylor Emerson led the songs and Brother Glenn Miller delivered the sermon for the morning worship service.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers for the following who are on the prayer request list: Kayleigh McClendon, Cathy Gullion, Baby Caden Barnett, Jennifer Newell, Shirley Bibb, Janet King, Karen Moore, J. W. Blackwood, Dennis Olive, Melissa Stancil, Penny Buckalew, Sidney Woznicki, Hazel Parker, Buddy Franklin, Robert Hurley, Keith Jones, Earl Roden, Mike Segars, Randy Lewis, Diane Young and Linda Yancy.

Belated birthday wishes go out this week to Brother Tom Campbell on Sept. 19, Connie Campbell and Mitchell Bryant Owens on Sept. 20, and happy birthday wishes go out this week to Eliana Thomas and Nola Solomon on Sept. 21, Natalie Smith on Sept. 22, Avery Arnold on Sept. 23, Angie Barnett on Sept. 24, and Tucker Heard on Sept. 25. Happy anniversary wishes go out this week to Tyler and Ashley Byrd as they will celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary on Sat., Sept. 24.

Yvonne Quattlebaum and the Rev. Danny Garrison were honored at the former Weekday’s Deli lunch crowd for their September birthdays. Everyone enjoyed the barbecue meal, cake and ice cream on Wed., Sept. 14, at the Holy Smoke BBQ in Tanner Heights. Those in attendance were Billy and Diane Tillman, Jimmy McClanahan and his grandchildren Seth, Noah and Abigail, Katie Beavers, Fred and Sandra Smith, Randy Slack, Neil and Yvonne Quattlebaum, Dwight Jones, Kay Farrer and Larry Anders.

At 5:30 p.m. McKendree UMC community wide supper of finger foods, desserts and drinks were enjoyed by community and area residents as well as out of county participants. Attendees were blessed by Noah Battles praise service and Brother Mike Vest’s program at 6:30 p.m.  Discussion groups were led by Brother Mike and Tammy Vest. They are continuing the “Eight Recovery Principles” study. They offer this list about McKendree UMC– Things We Are– a safe place to share, a refuge, a place of belonging, a place to care for others and be cared for, a place to grow and become strong again and a possible turning point in your life.

The No Fences Cowboy Church congregation assisted the serving and preparing of desserts for their Swamp John’s fundraiser Mon., Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. This activity was held at the church facility in the Summerford Barn on Hwy 55 West. Members appreciate those who bought meals and those who helped prepare and serve.

On Wed., Sept. 7, Massey Community and surrounding area residents enjoyed McKendree UMC Swamp Johns supper. The McKendree members appreciate those who ate in and those who worked the fundraiser and provided desserts.
