Hartselle residents have a shot at finding out if they have what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse on Oct. 22 at Hartselle Aquatic.

The Zombie Run, hosted by the Lions Club, is a 2 to 3-mile obstacle course with 10 manmade obstacles.

Each obstacle is made more difficult as zombies approach the runners in attempts to steal their lives.

Runners will wear belts with two flags on them, each flag symbolizing one life. If a runner finishes the course alive, he or she will receive an award.

Lions Club member Donna Townson said this is the second year for the run and based on last year’s results, she is hoping to see a big number of participants.

“Last year we had spectators along the whole course and about 300 runners,” she said.

For those who participated last year, Townson said this year’s course contains different hurdles.

Zombies compete against each other in a costume contest at 5 p.m. before the chase begins at 5:45.

Those interested can register online now through midnight on Oct. 21, or at 4 p.m. Oct. 22 in front of the Aquatic Center on Nanceford Road.

Chase waivers must be signed by everyone and parking is available at Sparkman Park, Hartselle Civic Center, Hartselle Aquatic Center and Grady & Margie Long Park.

Prices are as follows:

  • 1 runner, $40
  • Team of 2, $60
  • Team of 10 or more, $25
  • Zombie $10
  • Zombie and T-shirt $20
