2016 Veterans Day activities announced
Veterans Day activities are kicking off with a ceremony at 9 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Depot on Railroad Street.
Parade goers can check out exhibits and veteran memorabilia.
At 10 a.m. there will be a speech from National Guard Maj. General Allen Harrell, a four-star general from Montgomery.
Chair of the Hartselle Citizens for Economic Development Lee Greene said he’s looking forward to hearing Harrell speak because there’s never been a general come to the parade before.
Also attending is the Decatur National Guard, formerly Hartselle National Guard, and they are back for the first time since their deployment.
“That’s going to be exciting,” Greene said. “They’re all excited to come back.”
The parade starts at 11 a.m. and will take the traditional Christmas parade route ending at Tractor Supply.
Included in the parade are antique cars, tractors, Girl and Boy Scouts, and motorcycles.
“We have it where veterans can walk down Main Street or we will have a trailer they can ride in,” Greene said.
Following the parade will be free hot dogs provided by the Morgan County Cattlemen’s Association. This event is free for everyone.
