Last year was a big year for the Hartselle High School Athletic program. The Tigers had over 10 athletes sign National Letter of Intents to play. This past Wed. November 2nd, the Tigers had their first signee of the 2016-17 school year when Kaitlyn Spangler signed to play softball at the University of Mobile.

A celebration was held in Spangler’s honor in the cafeteria of Hartselle High School. Friends, family, coaches and teachers gathered to celebrate Spangler’s accomplishments. Hartselle head softball coach Christy Ferguson spoke of what a great accomplishment this is for Spangler and about how hard she worked to get to this point.

Spangler herself is looking forward to continuing her career at Mobile. “I really like that it’s a small school. Their softball program is homey and people really care about each other there.” Spangler said. “It’s not all about softball there.”

Ferguson believes Spangler will shine at Mobile. “She’s going to bring a great attitude, leadership and a hard work ethic.” Spangler said. “She’s just going to be another asset for them.” Ferguson also believes that Mobile will help Spangler grow. “She’ll grow quickly being away from home.” Ferguson said. “I think she’ll provide that spark that they need ta the catchers position.”

Before, Spangler leaves for Mobile, she looks to have a big senior season after the Tiger’s suffered a down year last year. “Her main thing is leadership.” Ferguson said. “She works well with our younger players and provides a great example for them.”
