The new Priceville High School gym was rocking when it welcomed it’s first basketball game. The Priceville Lady Bulldogs were set to host the Brewer Lady Patriots in a cross county game.
Brewer’s Shyan Flack dominated the game early by scoring the Patriot’s first six point to give them a 6-5 lead. The two teams went back and forth for much of the first quarter but Brewer was able to maintain the lead at the end of it 18-14, thanks to 6 points from Leisha Steger at the end of the quarter.
Ashlee Quinn opened the second quarter up for Priceville with a three pointer to cut the lead to 18-17. However, Steger again would add five more points to boost the lead to 23-17. Five points from Priceville’s Kathleen Wheeler would cut the score to 32-28 as the second quarter neared the end, but the Patriots would extend it back to 37-28 at the half.
Brewer came out on fire to start the second half as the Patriots went on a 10-2 run, which included a big three from Katelyn Childs, to take a 47-30 lead. Priceville would try to mount a comeback. Big baskets by Jenna Walker and Skyler Benson helped cut the lead to 49-39. However, that was as close as the Bulldogs would come as Brewer went on to win 69-49.
Shyan Flack led the Patriots with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Leisha Steger added 13 points and 5 rebounds while Katelyn Childs had 10 points. McCarley Northway had 7 points and 10 rebounds.
The highlight for Priceville was Jenna Walker. Walker cracked the starting lineup in the Bulldogs first game as just an eighth grader. She also led the Dogs with 21 points. Skyler Benson finished with 9 points while Kathleen Wheeler had 8. Wheeler and Benson also led the team in rebounds with 6 and 5 respectively.
