It was an emotional day for Brewer’s Dakota Bennett on Tues., November 15. After years of playing baseball, the Patriots star pitcher was about to take an even bigger step in his career as he prepared to sign to play baseball at the University of Arkansas. Signing to play athletics in college is a big deal no matter where you go, but signing to play in the SEC is a huge deal.

A celebration was held in Bennett’s honor in the gymnasium at Brewer High School. Friends, family, coaches and teachers gathered to help Bennett celebrate his accomplishment. Some coaches spoke on his behalf then Bennett spoke, as he tried to fight back tears, about how thankful he was for his parents sacrificing everything so that he could be where he is today.

Bennett himself is excited to continue his career at Arkansas. “The big thing that drew me there was the coaching staff. There’s not a better coaching staff.” Bennett said. “Their winning a lot of games and playing great baseball and I’m excited to go there.” Bennett is also excited for the chance to get to play SEC baseball. “It feels like your on top of the world when you get to sign with the SEC.” Bennett said. “It’s a big deal.”
