Myrtle Turrentine Hogue formerly of the Corinth and Battleground communities was honored  for her “90TH” birthday with a celebration on Sunday, November the 6th. Her family, Carol England of Massey, Janice Osborne of Cullman and Ron Hogue arranged the surprise party at Westminster Assisted Living in Cullman. Myrtle,s birthday was November 4th but she enjoyed celebrating on the 6th. Myrtle is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Battleground. She had retired from Prestolite in Decatur. Her late husband, Thurman Hogue, had predeceased her several years ago. Many who travel Hwy 157 know her as “The Quilt Lady” because she had beautiful quilts hanging on her front porch. We wish Myrtle comfort and peace and many more happy birthdays.

Celebration Recovery at McKendree United Methodist Church and the Massey community were invited to a Thanksgiving supper on Friday, November the 18th at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, November the 11th, Noah Battles opened the celebrate recovery service at McKendree United Methodist Church with the praise and worship program. Noah led the singing and played the guitar. Forty people enjoyed the barbecue meal and discussion groups.

Carolyn Besnyl was honored on Sunday night, November the 13th with a birthday supper at her home in Massey. There was a surprise “86TH” birthday cake and Carolyn,s son Tim Besnyl from the Los Angeles  California area and grandson Johnny 0’Neal, also from California came for several days. Others who attended were Terry Boyd, Matt Roper, Dewayne and Mandy Roper, Joyce 0’Neal, Robert and Rebekah Mobley, Daniel Mobley, Carolyn Standridge and Randy Besnyl. Carolyn,s birthday was Wednesday, November the 16th. Judy Gover and Frances Rowe and Pixie Smith brought food for the Besnyls. Carolyn expresses her appreciation for cards, calls, prayers and food for their family and Joyce.

Rev. Mack Buttram, pastor from Huntsville, was the guest speaker at Falkville United Methodist Church on Sunday, November the 6th. Rev. Buttram is formerly from Winston County and part of the Buttrams who ran a youth camp where church groups from some of our churches were really blessed. Also, actor Pat Buttram of the “Green Acres” television series and other shows was part of the family. Everyone was inspired by his worship service and communion. A pot-luck lunch followed in the fellowship hall. Youth night at the Falkville church was Wednesday, November the 9th, at 6:00 p.m. Leaders were Bess and LeighAnn .

Matthew Asherbranner was honored Sunday night with a November 6th “27TH”  birthday supper hosted by his parents, Ronny and Jenny Asherbranner on Pleasant View Road in Massey community. Everyone enjoyed the birthday meal with traditional Thanksgiving fare. Those attending were Julie Asherbranner,Alex Asherbranner, Luke Asherbranner, Melinda and JR Haynes, Carson and Avery, Robert and Ally Summerford, Martha Asherbranner and Phillip and Wilma Asherbranner. Matthew,s actual birth date was Friday, Nov. 4th.

The Thanksgiving spirit and the aroma of delicious food prevailed on Wednesday night at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, November the 16th.  Laraine Cost was in charge of their meal at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Everyone enjoyed the traditional turkey and ham with other special holiday creations. Their pastor is Brother Wayne Penn.

The Senior Citizens Committee, GayNell Wilhite, Chairman, David Shedd, Shirley Pope, Belinda Ricks and Hilton Kelly told about their reason for giving thanks at the Corinth West Baptist,s Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, November the 15th at 11:00 a.m. Belinda Ricks was in charge of the meal and Hilton Kelly cooked turkey and David Shedd the ham. Others furnished salads, sides and desserts. GayNell Wilhite called four bingo games for those attending. The Christmas lunch will be December 20th.

Gayle Miller led the opening prayer for the area’s sick and shut-ins at the Women,s group meeting of Corinth West Baptist Church Sunday, November the 6th, at 10:00 a.m. Gayle also gave the devotional on “Discipline” . Shanda Garner, president, conducted the business session. Menus and food assignments were made for Senior   Citizens Day Thanksgiving lunch on November the 15th, and the area Thanksgiving  Church service and supper they are hosting. The Women,s Christmas party date was set but no other plans were made. They will also  prepare baskets for elderly and sick and shut-in residents. Shirley Pope served breakfast to the unit and to the Men who met in the fellowship hall. Everyone enjoyed the sausage hashbrown casserole, fruit and poundcake. GayNell Wilhite served fruit juices, coffee and water.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Robert Moore and also for the family of Lazelle Murphy Couey.

Special happy birthday wishes go out this week for Heidi Walker-November-29th, Michael Walker-November-30th and John Owens-November-30th.
