God’s promises are true for the ages

Most of us have heard this verse many times; in fact most of us have probably quoted this verse many times in our life.

From 2 Chronicles 7:14 we can read “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

God spoke this to Solomon after the temple was completed and dedicated.

But God also spoke these words to Solomon farther along in the same chapter.

“But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. This temple will become a heap of rubble. All who pass by will be appalled and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why he brought all this disaster on them.’” 2 Chronicles 19:22.

Just as God took care of His people, the nation of Israel, time and time again, regardless of how far they pulled away, the same is true of His church now. Those of us who are profess to be Christians, knowing, trusting and believing that Jesus is our Lord, Savior and King, can hold true to His words also. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture and His promise is true today just as it was each time He saved the nation of Israel. Regardless of the time that has passed God was, is and ever shall be our guardian and protector though the ages and into eternity, His promises will never fail us.

Let us all who profess Christ call upon the Lord, ask Him to guide our leaders, seeking to do His will. We as a people need to seek His will and believe His word that He will forgive all of us our transgressions and make our country again “One Nation under God, Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Just as He told Solomon that he would turn away from them I think God’s blessing and favor can be turned away from our country. In fact, sometimes I believe that is happening now in our lifetime.  We seem to move further and further away from doing what is right, turning to evil practices and not loving our neighbors as He commanded us to do, and moving to a what is “it’s all about me” and what I want in society.

When God talks about worshipping other gods I believe when we put our own selfish wants and needs above God and anyone else, we are doing that exact action He warns us about.

But just as He promised, and His promises are eternal, we have the opportunity as a nation, state, county and city to call on Him and seek His favor and He will heal hear and prayers.

But He is faithful and it is not too late to seek Him and what He desires for our lives and for our country, state, county and nation. God Bless us all.
