NARCOG plans for May elections

The North Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments (NARCOG) Area Agency on Aging is now accepting applications for the May elections to the Alabama Silver-Haired Legislature (ASHL).

The ASHL is a model legislature of citizen volunteers aged 60 and older elected or appointed to represent the interest of older Alabamians.  It parallels the Alabama State Legislature with members representing all 105 legislative districts.

The annual ASHL session is held each October in the Alabama House of Representatives in Montgomery.  Resolutions are introduced, debated and voted on and a final list of issues is presented to the governor and members of the Alabama State Legislature.

Anyone age 60 and older and a registered voter in the state of Alabama can apply by completing the required application and petition forms.  Forms and additional information are available from the NARCOG Area Agency on Aging.

Interested candidates need to submit completed forms before April 3, 2017, to be considered for the election. For more info and to obtain  the required forms contact Heather Belz at 256-355-4515 or visit our website www.narcog.org to download the required forms. Learn more: www.narcog.org.
