Jenkins and Smith help lead Calhoun over Marion Military

Two former Morgan County softball players helped lead Calhoun to two victories over Marion Military on Wednesday April 19th. Hannah Jenkins, a 2015 graduate of Hartselle, and Makenzie Smith, a 2016 graduate of Falkville, both came up big during the games.

Jenkins had an RBI triple to score the Lady Warhawks first run in the first inning. She added another single later in the game. Smith also had a triple during the game. She was later drove in thanks to a home run. Calhoun won the first game 5-2.

Jenkins didn’t get much action at the plate in the second game as she was hit three times in a row. However, Smith proved crucial in the second game as she hit a single that set up the winning run. Smith was drove in with an RBI double, which gave the Lady Warhawks the win 2-1 in extra innings.

Jenkins is hitting .360 this year, but is hitting .389 in the last three weeks of conference games. Smith is hitting .281 as a freshman.

Calhoun’s games against Marion Military also marked the Warhawk’s annual “Catch for a cure” event. The softball team raised over $800 , which will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
