Book Babies- Designed for babies/toddlers up to age 3 and their adult caregivers, this program offers short and sweet stories for little ones to build crucial pre-literacy skills. June 8

Teen Anime Club- This free program is for teens who love anime. Come watch an anime TV show and practice your anime drawing skills. Meets in the Story Hour Room at 4 p.m. in the Youth Services Department at Decatur Public Library. For more information call 256-353-2993 ext. 122.

 

June 12

Minecraft Builds- This free program is for school age children to construct Minecraft pigs, dragons, flowers, and more out of craft supplies. Come and go at your convenience during the time. You may work on a solo project or with a group. The creations will hang from the ceiling in the Youth Services Department. Superheroes of Faith- Hartselle Church of Christ will host their Superheroes of Faith Vacation Bible School on June 12 through June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

June 13

Build a Better Waffle Story Time- Our friends from Waffle House will be here and after the story there will be mini waffles with toppings for the kids to enjoy. This free program will take place at 10 a.m. in the Youth Services Department at Decatur Public Library. For more information call 256-353-2993 ext. 122.

 

June 15

Build a Better Hospital Story Time- This storytime will be presented by Kathy Goodwin, our friend from Decatur Morgan Hospital. Come learn about the hospital and make a fun craft. Teen Poetry Workshop presented by Anna Weber- This free program is for teens and adults who want to learn more about writing poetry. Ms. Weber is a lecturer at University of Huntsville. She is also the coordinator for the Alabama’s Region 5 Poetry Out Loud competition. The program will be held at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of Decatur Public Library. Everyone is welcome. Local Author Meet and Greet- The Decatur Public Library will host six local authors: Alicia Hunter Pace (writing team of Jean Hovey and Stephanie Jones), M. J. Boshers, Catherine Knowles, P. Sherman Furr, Samanthia Cassidy, and Curt Cagle, on Thursday, June 15th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The authors will be set up in the main area of the library to sell their books and talk to patrons about what and why they write. Join us from 3 to 5 p.m. for all or part of this free event. The Eighth Annual Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off- The Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off is a member of the Alabama Barbeque Association (ABA). Being a member of ABA entitles teams participating in our event the ability to earn points towards the Governor’s Cup which determines the State Champion. We are a sanctioned event with the Kansas City Barbeque Society, KCBS. By being a KCBS sanctioned event we receive nationwide promotion of our event, workers and even more teams interested in participating. We have also been recognized by the Governor as a State Championship competition.

Hartselle City Schools Board Meeting Schedule 2017.

June 12, 2017 – Central Office – 6:00 p.m.

Hartselle Aquatic Center will open for the 2017 Season on May 27 at 10 a.m. Hours of operation will be as follows: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. 10 a.m. -6 p.m., Tue. and Thur. 10 a.m. -8 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. -6 p.m. Admission prices will be $10 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 6-12, $5 for ages 3-5 and ages 2 and under is free. You can also reserve the aquatic center for private parties!! Contact Lacy at 256-773-2581 for more information.

 

Aerobics- Ladies, join instructor Mellonie Chappell, on Mon., Wed. and Fri. at the civic center at 8 a.m. for a refreshing morning workout. The class is suitable for all ages. Please bring a mat for floor exercises. Any additional equipment is provided. The fee is $25 per month.

Tumbling- This class, instructed by Mellonie Chappell, is designed for children ages 5 and older. They will learn basic tumbling skills. Classes will be on Mon. from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m at the civic center. The fee is $40 per month.

JMK Martial Arts- Join JMK Martial Arts & Fitness at the Hartselle Civic Center and build a more confident you! Exciting martial arts and fitness classes are available for kids and adults. Classes are divided into age groups as follows; Pre-Kubs (ages 3-4), Lil Kubs (ages 5-7), Kid Kubs (ages 8-10), Jr. Kubs (ages 11-14) and adults (ages 15 and older). Baton- Kim Robertson, a former University of Alabama Crimsonette, instructs girls ages 5 and older in the basics of baton at the civic center. The fee for this class is $50 per month. Classes meet on Thur. afternoons. Call the civic center for more details.

Hartselle Public Library offers Preschool Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also called the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Registered participants are welcome to stay for lunch provided by the Commission on Aging. For more information or for transportation, call Dan Price at 256-773-0786.

Falkville VFW, located at 784 Culver Road, hosts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.

 

Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Hindsight is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

A cancer support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

Hartselle’s Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the Freight House Restaurant.

 

Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
