The Hartselle City Council meeting last Tuesday allowed for two ordinances to change rules currently held by the city.

Ordinance 1465 was approved by the council to allow the establishment or alteration of the speed limits within the city to be done by resolution instead of by ordinance.

The council also approved ordinance 1466 which allowed an amendment to section 62-6 to make an exception for fireworks displays conducted by the city. This will allow a fireworks show on July 9th at 9 p.m. hosted by Hartselle’s Parks and recreation. Parks and Rec. is hoping that it will become an annual event. It will be a fireworks only show, which means no food or special shows will be at the event.

The council approved a budget request from the Hartselle Fire department which moves $500 to lien item #: 01-202-5917 (Fire Grant) from line item #: 01-202-5309 (Telephone). The fire department had community consultants   prepare a Fire Prevention Grant through FEMA for a fire extinguisher, which will cover the fee. The council also approved the new volunteer fire department roster.

Randy Sparkman spoke to the council on behalf of the Hartselle City School Board to give an update on the current search for a new Hartselle superintendent. A public forum will be held this Thursday June 22th at the central office for the superintendent search. The board hopes to have finalists selected after July 4th.
