July 5

Build a Better Bee Hive Program Allyson Shabel from the Morgan County Extension Office will be here at 10 a.m. to talk about how honey is made by bees. July 6

AYSO Hartselle Youth Soccer Program will hold Fall Registration for ages 5 through 19 on July 6 from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hartselle Soccer Complex which is located at 621 Groover Rd., SW. There will also be an adult soccer league for anyone 20 and older. The AYSO VIP Soccer Program for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities will have registration on July 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. The final day to register for fall soccer is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on July 11.

 

Reading Round-Up Book Club for the 2017 Adult Reading Challenge- Adults 18 and older are invited to our Reading Round-Up Book Club from noon to 2 p.m., where we discuss what we’re reading for the 5th Annual Adult Reading Challenge. The atmosphere is casual so bring your lunch, stay for 15 minutes or the full 2 hours, and talk books! You can sign up for the challenge or get stamps for books read at the Book Club meeting. Minecraft Builds- This free program is for school age children to construct Minecraft pigs, dragons, flowers, and more out of craft supplies. Come and go at your convenience during the time. You may work on a solo project or with a group. The creations will hang from the ceiling in the Youth Services Department. Grand Opening- Bliss Skin Spa is hosting their grand opening on Sat., July 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. The new spa is located at 410 Main St. Suite A.

Build a Kinder World Story Time- Keilee Terry from Magical Memories will be here as Cinderella for this story time which will focus on being kind. Participants can also make their own magic wand! TAG Meeting- The Teen Advisory Group invites teens to share ideas about making Decatur Public Library a better place for young adults! Meet with other teens, help plan fun events, and volunteer to help with the summer reading program. We want to hear from you! Book Babies- Designed for babies/toddlers up to age 3 and their adult caregivers, this program offers short and sweet stories for little ones to build crucial pre-literacy skills. Lunch and Learn Series: Words from Removal-  Cherokee Removal through Eyewitness Accounts Join us for a program on the Trail of Tears in Decatur and Alabama presented by Shannon Keith, the president of the Alabama Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association. This will be an entertaining and educational program that is free to the public. You bring your lunch and we will provide drinks and cookies. Experience Engineering presented by the McWane Center at Decatur Public Library- This free program will combine science, engineering and building. Everyone is invited. Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 721 Pickens St. SW, will host a Free Outdoor Movie Night on Fri., July 14 at 8 p.m. They will show “Beauty and the Beast”. Popcorn and soda will be provided. The Heartland Quilt Guild of Cullman is hosting a Quilt Show on Fri., July 14 and Sat., July 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. on July 14 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 15. The show is located at East Elementary School at 608 4th Ave., Cullman. There will be beautiful quilts made by Heartland members, vendors, donated quilt giveaway, door prizes and demonstrations. 5th Annual Hartselle Health Fair- On Fri., July 21 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., the Cottages presents a free community health fair featuring vision testing by Lions Club, bone density testing by Cullman Regional Medical Center, Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mobile unit for medical screenings. Plus vendors, music, door prizes, and brain games!

Wild Wetlands Day Camp- Join us for a fun filled day on Flint Creek Wetland Mitigation Bank! We will be learning about wetland ecology, survival skills and edible/medicinal plants. The event is Thur., July 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is from 8 to 8:25 a.m. and the activities are from 8:30 to 2 p.m. The location is at the Morgan County Agriculture Services Building, 3120 Hwy 36 West, Hartselle. The day camp is open for ages 8-13. There are only 20 spots available! The cost is a $20 donation to M.C.E.E.F. for the day and it includes a t-shirt, water bottle, backpack, snacks, lunch and supplies. The Eighth Annual Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off- The Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off is a member of the Alabama Barbeque Association (ABA). Being a member of ABA entitles teams participating in our event the ability to earn points towards the Governor’s Cup which determines the State Champion. We are a sanctioned event with the Kansas City Barbeque Society, KCBS. By being a KCBS sanctioned event we receive nationwide promotion of our event, workers and even more teams interested in participating. We have also been recognized by the Governor as a State Championship competition.

Hartselle City Schools Board Meeting Schedule 2017

July 17, 2017 – Central Office – 6:00 p.m.

 

Hartselle Aquatic Center hours of operation are as follows: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. 10 a.m. -6 p.m., Tue. and Thur. 10 a.m. -8 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. -6 p.m. Admission prices will be $10 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 6-12, $5 for ages 3-5 and ages 2 and under is free. Aerobics- Ladies, join instructor Mellonie Chappell, on Mon., Wed. and Fri. at the civic center at 8 a.m. for a refreshing morning workout. The class is suitable for all ages. Please bring a mat for floor exercises. Any additional equipment is provided. The fee is $25 per month.

Tumbling- This class, instructed by Mellonie Chappell, is designed for children ages 5 and older. They will learn basic tumbling skills. Classes will be on Mon. from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m at the civic center. The fee is $40 per month.

JMK Martial Arts- Join JMK Martial Arts & Fitness at the Hartselle Civic Center and build a more confident you! Exciting martial arts and fitness classes are available for kids and adults. Classes are divided into age groups as follows; Pre-Kubs (ages 3-4), Lil Kubs (ages 5-7), Kid Kubs (ages 8-10), Jr. Kubs (ages 11-14) and adults (ages 15 and older). Baton- Kim Robertson, a former University of Alabama Crimsonette, instructs girls ages 5 and older in the basics of baton at the civic center. The fee for this class is $50 per month. Classes meet on Thur. afternoons. Call the civic center for more details.

Hartselle Public Library offers Preschool Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also called the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registered participants are welcome to stay for lunch provided by the Commission on Aging. Falkville VFW, located at 784 Culver Road, hosts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.

 

Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Hindsight is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

A cancer support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

The Hartselle Hope AL-Anon Family Group, located at 527 Sparkman St. in Hartselle, meets Mondays at 8 p.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m., Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Ala-Teen Family Group meets Fridays at 7 p.m. For more information, call 1-888-425-0775.

Hartselle’s Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the Freight House Restaurant.

 

Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
