A fellowship breakfast was enjoyed on June 24 by the men of First Baptist Falkville. The group was entertained by guest Gordon Wilbanks and his accompanist, Russ.

Those attending were: Brotherhood Director, Sid Sawyer, Pastor Stephen Cannon, Mike Tarpley, Vaughn Burden, Bill Carroll, Charlie Gover, Bob Ramey, Mike Thompson, C.A. Blevins, Chris Blevins, John Lockhart, David Lockhart, Jerry Wood and Joe Edmondson.

Jeanne Blackmon is a resident of Falkville and moved to the area whenever her father, the late R.D. Gibbons, was transferred with the L & N Railroad Company as a station agent.

Jeanne has been the Falkville News correspondent for the Hartselle Enquirer for over 60 years. She is a graduate of Falkville High School and N.I.A Journalism in New York City. No one is even too old to go back to school. I went to school after being out for over 30 years. I got an Associate’s Degree from Wallace State.

My hobby is cooking. I have won over 100 ribbons at the Morgan and Cullman County fairs for my cooking. I have won seven cooking contests, where I took dishes to be judged.

Before I go grocery shopping, I check the recipe that I want to use to see what ingredients I need. After making the recipe, I write on the book if it is good and I also write the date that I made it. I do not collect recipes that I know I won’t use. I have also had my recipes published in seven cookbooks, including a recipe for broccoli cauliflower fritters published in the 2002 Southern Living cookbook.

The First Baptist Falkville ladies had a summer celebration on Tues., June 20. The annual Patriotic Cookout was hosted by Anna Cannon. Everyone enjoyed great food, fellowship and a program presented by Pam Blevins, Vanessa Johnson and Leah Johnson. Those attending were: Dennett Wood, Lilly Ferrell, Abby Ferrell, Lydia Williams, Malarie Smith, Bree Smith, Lakin Smith, Cheyenne Wilson, Sarah Laughmiller, Michelle Ferrell, Mary Travers, Anita Crow, Jillian Smith, Pam Blevins, Vanessa Johnson, Leah C. Johnson, Charlotte Morris, Deanise Weaver, Margaret Laughmiller, Rita Burden, Karen Banks, Crystal Williams, Fran Edmondson, Pat Nelson, Heather Collins, Barbara Fields, Dean Nelson, Bonnie Sawyer, Geraldine Rowe, Judy Grover, Patricia Ramey, Beth Powell, Deborah Thompson, Linda Alldredge and Anna Cannon.

First aid tip: to soothe razor burns, place a wet tea bag over the cut. The acid in the tea bag will alleviate inflammation.

Prayer list: Bonnie Thompson, Rita Burden and Don and Willadean Blankenship.
