Morgan County is rich in girls’ basketball talent, arguably more than any other sport, and that talent doesn’t take a rest during the offseason. Several of the county’s top girls basketball players are currently playing this summer in the Southern Starz organization. Southern Starz is an AAU organization that is based out of Huntsville, Alabama. The teams are divided up based on their grade level. Among the Morgan County players are:

Moriah Taylor, Hartselle. Taylor started for the Lady Tigers in both her freshman and sophomore years and helped lead Hartselle to two county titles and a final four appearance in those two years. Taylor has been named MVP of both county tournaments she has played in. She is the only freshman to be named MVP in the tournaments history. Taylor plays for the Starz 10 grade Bush team.

McCarley Northway, Brewer. Like Taylor, Northway started for the Lady Patriots in both her freshman and sophomore years. She helped lead the Patriots to a Morgan County championship berth and a top ten ranking in her sophomore year before injuries derailed the Patriot’s momentum. Northway is set to lead a promising and talented Patriots team this year. Northway plays on the Starz 10  grade Veal team.

Jolee Cole, Danville. Another upcoming junior, Cole was a valued sixth man in her freshman year and moved up to a starting role in her sophomore. She is a talented shooter that averaged between 15-20 points for the Lady Hawks. Cole will be counted on even more this year after the graduation of point guard Tara Tuck and the retirement of head coach Paul Wilson. Cole plays on the Starz 10  grade Veal team.

Kathleen Wheeler, Priceville. Priceville’s best shooter returns for her junior year after achieving her 1,000 point and more last season. Wheeler helped the young Lady Bulldogs finish the season strong last year, which included an upset of Danville in the area tournament. The Lady Bulldogs are poised to be one of the best teams in the county this year. Wheeler plays on the Starz 10  grade Veal team.

Jenna Walker, Priceville. Few players make a splash on Varsity before they enter high school but that’s what Walker did last year. Walker achieved a role as a starting point guard last year as an eighth grader. A talented youngster who is already receiving college consideration, her upside has played into Priceville’s hype for this upcoming season. Walker plays on the 8 grade Looney team.

Other Morgan County players include: Brianna Marquette-Priceville, Lannah Johnson-Priceville, Tia lambert-Priceville, Masyn Marchbanks-Hartselle, Hope West-Union Hill and Gracin Prater Priceville.
