BEN SPEER MEMORIAL SINGING SEPT. 10

Gospel singer and songwriter, Ben Speer from Old Houston in Winston County, near Addison passed away this spring. There will be a singing, the Ben Speer Memorial at the Houston Baptist Church on Sun., Sept. 10.

Carolyn Besnyl of McKendree United Methodist Church and Karen Fite of Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church attended the mission study at Camp Sumatanga. They went to classes on July 28 and 29. One of the studies was “Missionary Conferences of the United Methodist Church: Alaska, Appalachia, Red Bird, Oklahoma, Indian.” Living as a “Covenant Community” was the second study. They learned about Biblical Covenants. The music and program were included in the second study.

Lebanon Baptist Church on Hwy 55 West and Barkley Bridge Road held their Summer Revival Aug. 13 through Aug. 16. The Evangelist was Rev. Michael Mason. Sheryl Lee is the church music director and Judy Dobbs, organist and Harolyn Crowe, pianist.

The family of the late Grady and Bernice Summerford Bailey of Massey held their summer reunion on Sun., July 30 at 3:00 p.m. Jerry and Shelia Durand Reeves hosted the event at their home in Cotaco. Everyone enjoyed delicious barbecue and sides and visiting. Grady and Bernice were parents of three daughters, the late Peggy Bailey Durand of Cotaco, Zana Bailey Thompson of Massey and Sybil Bailey Arnold of Cullman. They were well known for their prize-winning dairy cattle and love of sports, especially football.

The Massey Community supper was Fri., Aug. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church. Those attending enjoyed barbecued meatballs, mac and cheese, slaw and creamed potatoes, desserts and drinks. Following the meal, Noah Battles led the praise and worship service. Brother Mike Vest led the serenity prayer and program on the purposes of Celebrate Recovery. Also on the program was a video of a Recovery member from Saddleback Church in California. The topic was: “Making Amends.” Brother Mike and Tammy Vest led the men’s and women’s discussion portion of the service.

The District First Congregational Methodist Churches Conference will be Sat., Sept. 9 at Oak Grove First Congregational Methodist Church in Lawrence County. The First Congregational Churches in North West Cullman County will be selecting delegates this month to attend the conference. Mt. Vernon’s pastor is Brother Glenn McCain, Corinth West’s pastor is Brother Wayne Jetton and Piney Grove’s pastor is Brother Glennis Best.

Breakfast for Corinth West Baptist Women’s and Men’s group was prepared by Christie Guthrie. The women met in the adult Sunday school and Donna Smithson served drinks. Jessie Emerson presided and GayNell Wilhite used John about your troubled heart. The group planned for brisket and chicken barbecue for their Senior Citizen’s Day in Sept.
