Corinth West Methodist set to host gospel singing

The Members of Corinth West Methodist Church will host a Convention Gospel Singing on Sun., Aug. 27.  The singing will begin at 10:30 a.m. with class singing and some special groups such as quartets, solos and more. Two pianos will be used and some songs will feature guitars, fiddle and other string instruments. Lunch will be provided in the fellowship hall at noon. The Corinth and area women and men are credited with the best food and singing around. From 1 to 3 p.m. the singing will be continued. This event is also known as “the Doyle Walker Memorial Convention Singing”. His family will sing several of his favorites. Doyle was chairman of the singing and pastor of the church for many years. Darrell Maddox is the chairman and works very hard to bring singers in and the congregation. The church is located on Hwy 1101 on the old Corn Road West. Everyone is welcome to attend the singing.

The Dillard and Mary Jane Blevins Family Reunion was held on Sat., Aug. 12 at Sportsman’s Lake Park in Cullman. The Late Dillard and Mary Jane Blevins still have descendants living in Northwest Cullman County, Cullman, Hartselle, Falkville, Moulton, Memphis, Tenn., Oneonta, Ala. and other areas including Georgia and Florida. The Blevins family lived in Winston County and then moved to the Corinth Community. The family enjoyed their annual reunion and members brought potluck lunch and enjoyed the family news and the food.

The Massey Community supper was held on Fri., Aug. 11 at McKendree United Methodist Church with spaghetti, salads, brownies, fruit pie and drinks. Afterward, the program was presented in the Bridge Center. The Celebrate Recovery Organization presented a video skit called “Recovery Skit Guys”. Following the skit, the guest speaker was an addicted person and he spoke about breaking the family cycle of addiction. In the discussion groups, the women want to break their family’s cycle of addiction. Brother Mike and Tammy led the men’s and women’s groups. Hank and Marsha Summerford worked with the children who attended. Hank does stories from the Bible and they have recreation for the children. 

The Mt. Zion Baptist women’s group will be attending a Retreat at Quail Creek Resort on Sept. 25 and 26. The Friday night speaker will be ‘Carrow McClendon. Amy Hill will speak on Saturday morning and women from other area churches have expressed interest as well.

A Back to School Bash was held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Sun., Aug. 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All ages were participants in the event, especially for the school children of the church. Everyone enjoyed the inflatable water slide and the food. The Children’s Director is Kim Hill.

Corinth West Baptists Senior Citizens Day was Tues., Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. GayNell Wilhite gave the devotional and the topic was “How To Be A Good Neighbor” and she used Luke chapter 10, beginning with verse 25. Door prizes, birthdays and anniversaries were announced. The menu included smoked brisket, chicken, baked beans, slaw, potato salad, deviled eggs along with desserts and drinks. Jo Ann Thompson and GayNell Wilhite called the Bingo games after lunch. Members delivered meals to the shut-ins. The official church year begins Sept. 1. A senior citizens committee will be announced.  There were 32 people in attendance for the activities.

Falkville United Methodist Youth had a back to school swim party at the home of Dan and Debbie Higgingbotham in Falkville on Sat., Aug. 5.

Brother Jack Bailey of Danville Baptist Church, will be the Evangelist for Mt. Zion Baptists Revival, with services starting Sun., Sept. 24 and going through Wednesday night. There will be regular congregation singing and special music. Jerome Ward is the music director. Their pastor is Brother Wayne Penn.
