East Highland Baptist Church of Hartselle was the hostess for a weekend retreat for women of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. This event was held on the weekend of Aug. 25 and 26. ‘Carrow McClendon was the speaker Friday night and the Saturday morning speaker was Amy Hill. Women from several Baptist churches in the area attended this retreat.

A dinner was held Friday night. Among those attending from Mt. Zion Baptist Church were: Jane Hill, Loraine Cost, Kim Hall, Faye Ward, Carol Powell, Carol Puckett, Vickie Pike, Claudette Shelton and Linda Houston, L. Knox and Helen Ferguson. The event was held at Quail Creek Conference Center.

What it was like during the 40’s and 50’s: Falkville Blue Devils football team. The football field was not lighted and the games were played in the afternoon. There were concession stands and you carried your own snacks and coffee if you wanted any during the game. Chances were sold to have the field lighted. There was an oil drum can at the end of the field. There was a fire in this and whenever people at the ball game would to this drum in order to get warm. Admission was .50 for students, I do not recall the admission for adult tickets, but I think they might have been .75.

Howard and Helen Gibson, Ray and Betty Sanders, Franklin and Sue Harrison, Shirley Cooper, Sarah Hadley Gaines, Scott and Becky Parker and Kenneth and Betty Harpe were eating breakfast at Libby’s Restaurant in Priceville. They were classmates at Falkville High School.
