MT. ZION BAPTIST CHURCH WELCOMES MAYOR TOMMY BATTLES

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battles will be the guest speaker at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Brotherhood Men’s Club on Sun., Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. at their monthly breakfast meeting.

New Life-God’s Church hosted the Hardin Family Reunion on Sun., Aug. 27. Brother Phillip Hardin welcomed family members who came for the morning worship service and later those who came for lunch and fellowship. The descendants of John Andrew and Sarah Reeder Hardin meet annually on the fourth Sunday in August. Lynn Hardin, daughter of the late Leldon Jr. and Burmah Hardin from Oklahoma attended and Kenneth and Kathy Hardin were there from Nevada. Vivian Hardin Summerford was the oldest family member present. She will be 98 in November. The John Andrew Hardin home place is on Huckaby Bridge Road near West Lacon Road and the Fairview Community. New Life Church was formerly Fairview Church of God for many years.

Dana Henslee served breakfast on Sun., Sept. 3 to the Corinth West Baptist Women’s and Men’s group. The women met in the adult Sunday school classroom and the men in the fellowship hall. Everyone enjoyed the sausage balls, fruit tray and the cream cheese bars. Shirley Pope served juice and coffee. Jessie Emerson presided and Dawn Shedd gave the devotional on “Everything is Beautiful” and GayNell Wilhite led the prayer. Plans were made for the Senior Citizens Day luncheon to be held on Tues., Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. The menu will include smoked turkey sausage, pintos, green beans, corn, creamed potatoes, cornbread, desserts and drinks. The Women will do 10 shoeboxes for the Samaritan Purse Christmas gifts for Third World Children. They also voted to send a hundred dollars to the Harvey Hurricane Relief fund. Once a month the group will send snack foods to Cullman Regional Medical Center for the ICU waiting rooms. The Corinth Baptist Men’s group discussed church donations and contributions were reported by treasurer, Tony Smithson. They also discussed preparing the meat for the Senior Citizens Day lunch. The fall clean up and repair needs were listed at the meeting. Brother Glenn Miller is their leader and pastor.

A video skit on “Grace” and the speaker John Baker’s message on Grace using the letters G-R-A-C-E, to outline his topic were program items for Celebrate Recovery at McKendree United Methodist Church. On Fri., Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m. volunteers served chicken casserole, garbanzo beans, mac and cheese, cake, a chocolate and whipped cream dessert and drinks in the fellowship hall. Noah Battles led the praise service and Brother Mike Vest and Tammy Vest conducted group discussion.

Special happy birthday wishes go out this week for John Steven Bryant on Sept. 19 and Mitchell Bryant Owens on Sept. 20 and belated happy birthday wishes go out to Aidan Jones on Sept. 9.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week for the family of Jimmy Sutton.

Special get-well wishes go out this week for Phillip Penn.                                               (Correction) Janie Mae Fitzgerald Holmes is not the daughter of Ardie Mae Hudson Fitzgerald. I am pleased to set the record straight.
