HPD arrests woman on theft charges

HARTSELLE— The Hartselle Police Department have arrested a suspect after a theft was seen on video.
Nov. 4, HPD received a report about the theft of a wallet and the subsequent use of a debit card from the wallet. An HPD investigator was able to locate video of the suspect using the card.
Investigator Tania Burgess contacted the victim and asked her to attempt to make a suspect identification.
According to HPD, the victim immediately identified the suspect as her daughter, Ashley Danielle Thomas.
Burgess asked the victim where Thomas was currently residing, and the victim stated Thomas lived with her and was currently in the bed.
Burgess said the unauthorized charges were nearly $1,200. Burgess later obtained a warrant for Thomas and met her at the Morgan County Jail to serve the warrant.
